According to a source in the Rajon Rondo camp, the C's guard has agreed to a five-year, $55 million contract extension with the Celtics.

Re: Rondo and Celtics agree to deal
This was a pretty important move, considering the uncertainty coming up over the next few seasons -
-Pierce and Perkins are both FAs after next season, although I certainly can't see Pierce playing anywhere else
-Ray Allen is a FA after this season
-KG's knees
-Rasheed and KG are the only guys guaranteed through 2012 (and JR Giddens and Bill Walker...)
We needed Rondo to sign an extension, it's nice to get it out of the way now.

Definitely, especially when you factor in the insane amounts of money that are going to get thrown around next summer. Love this deal.

Re: Rondo and Celtics agree to deal
Ellsbury kinda sucks though so I don't understand your point. Also, basketball has this thing called a salary cap, you should look into it.

i know they have a salary cap. Ells doesn't suck. Rondo is going to be a key for this offense in his years here.

Re: Rondo and Celtics agree to deal
The NBA salary cap doesn't even count as a salary cap.

Probably so, but I think it was necessary to keep him. I'd rather overpay a bit than to see him go.

Right, but the wording of the rule isn't "You're allowed to have a little over the salary cap."
Isn't the main driver the fact that you can exceed the cap by re-signing your own players? The actual cap is set in the 50 million dollar range. Pierce alone makes 15+.
