Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
Branch is too valuable. They need to get him back with the team, and quick. I wonder what we could get in return for him? Unless Brady's comfortable with the receiving core without Branch (in which case they could help themselves acquire a LB maybe?), they need to get another WR in return. I know he was just traded (or close to it), but perhaps Lelie from Atlanta?

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
Exactly..that's what I don't understand about this. The Patriots let Givens get away because they knew they wouldn't be able to afford to pay both Givens and Branch to come back to play. Givens is gone, so now they must do everything they can to get Branch back onto the field with them. It's ridiculous. If they weren't going to pay Branch, then why the hell did they let Givens get away? They have enough money to pay Branch, so fucking do it. This team needs him.

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
They have more than enough money to spend. They have almost 20 million under the cap to spend. Just give him the damn money and get it over with. Structure it so you pay basically the entire signing bonus this year.

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
They did nothing in free agency this year (Reche Caldwell excluded) and now they can't negotiate a contract with Deion Branch?
What the hell has gotten into this team? Don't they want to win anymore?

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
I have a dumb question in general about football. What the hell does "franchising" a player mean. How does it affect the cap? Does the money just not count? I b contused.

It does, but it prevents the player from signing a large contract, in which, the team would be hit with a large signing bonus.
(Anyway, Branch should honor his contract)

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
Nice try Crespo...
To Franchise a player is to pay him the average of the top 5 players in the league at his position...
Thats why the Pats "Franchised" Vinateri year after year.. franchising him at a very low paid position cost them very little..
Every team needs to "Franchise " a player. League rules. Branch is dreaming if he expects to ever be franchised. Is he really the top 3 reciever in the league?
Me thinks not..
Nice question Pink hat Chewie..

Re: Deion Branch can seek a trade
On one side, Deion is not a Reggie Wayne, and should just go through his contract. On the otehr side, the Pats need to stop bein tight-asses and give the guy whom they chose over Givens some money.

Yeah, I know.
If you're a player, would you rather have a one year deal, or a multi-year contract? If you're a team would you want a one year deal, or a multi-year contract?
I don't know if players should be forced to sign a contract, when they earn free agency.
Also, teams aren't required to franchise a player.
