Tubby smith gone.
Quote:
Statement from Mitch Barnhart, Athletics Director, University of Kentucky
On behalf of the University of Kentucky, I’d like to express sincere appreciation to Tubby Smith, his family and his staff. Tubby has always put a priority on the growth of the student-athlete while representing the Commonwealth with class, and we thank him for that. We wish him the very best at the University of Minnesota. They are getting a solid coach and a great person.
Our focus now is on finding the best possible person to lead the winningest program in college basketball history. President Todd has asked me to lead the search. Our strategy does not involve a search committee. Obviously, I will utilize the opinions of experts in this business. We will also lean on people who understand and are committed to the success of Kentucky basketball.
This search will be exhaustive, comprehensive and focused. Throughout that time, I will keep Dr. Todd informed during the process.
As you know, Coach Smith signed two players last fall. Those young men now have something to deal with in that the coach they signed with is no longer at the university to which they made their commitment. We have to be sensitive to them and stay in constant communication with them and their families.
We also have some scholarships still available for next season and have been pursuing individuals for those scholarships. It is our hope that any young man interested in playing at the University of Kentucky before Coach Smith decided to leave would wait until a new coach is in place before making any final decisions about their college future.
Kentucky holds a special place in college basketball. We have the best facilities and tradition in the sport, but most importantly, UK has a fan base which for decades has committed immense financial and emotional resources into Wildcat basketball. It truly is the Big Blue Nation, and it is what sets the University of Kentucky’s basketball program apart from every other school.
I’m confident we can find the right person to embrace this tradition and lead Kentucky basketball into the future.
Statement by Lee Todd, President, University of Kentucky
I greatly appreciate the service Tubby Smith has given to this university. He is among the best as a coach and has represented this university with class and professionalism. Tubby and Donna will also be greatly missed as members of this community to which they have given so much. I wish him every success, except if they ever play us, in this new chapter in his coaching career.
Mitch Barnhart and I have talked extensively about the process for hiring a new coach of Kentucky basketball. Mitch has a proven track record of bringing quality coaches to Kentucky that have immediate success and positive impact. I have every confidence in his ability to hire the right person for Kentucky and I am excited about moving our program forward.
|
He will be missed. I loved Tubby. He was a class act coach, and loved the game of basketball, but this is Kentucky. In Kentucky we expect only the best from our program, and no less. He will do great things in Minn. and I know I will be watching their games now just because of tubby. But whose gonna take over UK now?? You know it's gonna be a great coach, b/c that's what UK gets.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
Mark Few is my guess.
You damn Kentucky fans are too damn demanding. Only Rupp was quicker to 100 wins as a Wildcat, he won a National Championship, the program never embarassed the school with their off-court behavior, five SEC tournament Championships (I think) and you guys were all over him-- I hope you continue to be the second best team in Kentucky.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
Second best team in Kentucky?? Wooo homie, see that's why Tubby is gone, we aren't second best to no one. Only thing that sticks out being second best is NCAA titles and final four appearances . We beat Louisville this year, and proved we are number one in the State. Second off, we aren't to demanding. We know what it's like to win. I want the feeling again, where I think we can compete;i don't feel that anymore with tubby. I love the man, but he wasn't a Kentucky coach. No team in the history of the game, has beaten Kentucky 6 consecutive times. Never since the 74-75 season have we been swept by Vanderbilt. That includes losing to them at home. WTF?!?! Now instead of running the tables in the SEC, we are finishing 4th in our Conf. That shit isn't going to fly. We don't finish behind Florida, Tenn, or Vandy at UK. In football that's fine, not basketball. Pitino came from Providence, and did just fine filling in, and rocking the socks off people.
To demanding? We sell out 23,000 seats in Rupp arena, for freakin Practice. That is how much we care about this game. We stand behind our coach's, but we do expect excellence. A season like the one we have had the past 2 years is not ok.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
"We aren't second best to noone"? Jesus... you really are a Kentucky fan. That sentence is grammatically incorrect in so many ways it's incomprehensible.
Yes. Second best team in Kentucky. The point is, the next coach you guys hire will be the second best coach in Kentucky.
But whatever, the 'Big Blue Nation' is a billion times more tolerable than the most overrated fan base in sports, the Cameron Crazies.

Better get used to it. Florida has a bigger and better talent pool, and UF is far and away #1 in the state for college hoop. Donovan is a regional hero, so he gets the picks of the litter each year from here on out. Get used to it.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
If I were a teacher, I would have bled all over GIARSF's post with my red pen.
Anyway, this story alone about Tubby getting chased out of Kentucky has made me pretty angry. It's really made me see how annoying and arrogant some fans can really be. I mean, really, it's ridiculous to think that despite everything that man has done for that school, the fans shit their pants over a few down years. It happens to every school. And as much as I hate the Gators, this event alone has made me happy to realize that Kentucky will be finishing behind Florida for many, many years to come.
And by the way, like See Red said, I don't expect Kentucky to be the best team in the state, either.
"We demand excellence" ... get over yourselves. I don't give a fuck who attends your practices or how many. Your loyalty was never in question. Your sanity in this matter and how you come off as people, however, are.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
Sucks. He won a championship with Rick Pitino's players and everything.

They may have won a national championship, but i don't know if they are #1 in Florida for basketball. They only sold out their 12,000 seat arena once during the season.... Just once.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
You guys are bitching, but you are outside the bubble. We are one of the elite teams in College basketball, if not the most elite. We know what it's like to taste victory over and over. It's no different for Duke, UNC, or Kansas. If this happened to them, they would have done the same thing.

I don't know about you, but I think Roy Williams, Coach K and Bill Self would be treated with a lot more respect than Tubby was in Kentucky.
Also, didn't you guys chase Tubby out of town because he WASN'T letting you guys taste victory over and over again? You are not one of the elite teams in college basketball, and you haven't been for a few years. Stop daydreaming. Just because you had a lot of success at one point doesn't make you an elite team forever. You guys are selfish and impatient. It's okay though. I'll sleep better knowing that Florida will be much more elite in the coming years; especially with the top-notch recruits they will get over Kentucky.

Re: Tubby smith gone.
If it counts for anything I hate Florida, too.
This last weekend was insufferable. Announcers need to get off of Joakim Noah's vagina.

I believe the term you're looking for is "get out of" Joakim's Noah Vagina.

No.
The statement usually is "Get off so and so's dick."

However, you said "get off" his vagina. The vagina is is the tubular tract leading from the uterus to the exterior of the body in female placental mammals and marsupials, or to the cloaca in female birds, monotremes, and some reptiles. Therefore, it would be impossible to be "on" one's vagina in the first place and saying "get out of" would be much more suitable in this situation.
