Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
Brandon Jacobs reportedly has agreed to second round compensation and will forgo his football career at Auburn, for now. He is a 6'2 200+ pound house who was set to be greyshirted as a RB this yr. He is a true 5 tool talent, although his 60 times wouldnt tell you so. He runs a 4.4 second 40 yd dash, but he ran over 7 seconds in the 60. I would still expect him to have a lot of speed based on the fact that he was a division 1 recruit as a RB in the SEC. Regardless, he has a ton of power potential and showcases an above average arm. His bat is raw as most college kids are, but he is an athlete who can patrol CF in the future and could really hit for a lot of power if he gets the right coaching. Good sign.

Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
Miles Head was another tough sign who has inked on with Boston. The HS 3b from Georgia has a world of power already and projects to be a plus power kind of guy from the getgo. He was told prior to the draft that he would get what he wanted financially, but that he would not be selected in a higher round due to other needs.

Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
Michael Bulgary, a LHP out of Cal Berkely has signed with Boston. He a big framed guy and throws left handed, so thats good. I will try to get more on his stuff later.
Chris McGinness is a college JR from the citadel. He's a big, strong 1b with some power projection, who looks like filler material, although if he fulfills his power, he could be something more

Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
We also signed a catcher, Sean Killeen from Trinity as an UDFA.
Also I don't believe we officially signed Jacobs yet, but I'm pretty sure we're guaranteed to sign him before the deadline. I just don't think we're announcing the deal as to give any of the other potential signees leverage.

Sox sign fifth round pick Seth Schwindenhammer .

The Red Sox have signed Seth Schwindenhammer, their fifth-round selection in last week's draft, for $175,000, WEEK news (NBC, East Peoria, IL) is reporting. Schwindenhammer is a power hitting lefty who played left field and first base at Limestone Community High School (IL), where he batted .434 with 15 home runs and 54 RBIs as a senior. He is expected to report to Fort Myers and join the GCL Red Sox when their season begins June 24. Schwindenhammer had previously committed to play baseball at the University of Illinois.

Left-handed bat with big time power potential. Strong, balanced swing, ball comes off his bat well. Hits to all fields. Awesome offensive potential. Plays left field and first base. Strong arm.

Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
I believe we've also signed numbers 8,12,14,19,23 and 30 or Wilkerson, Thomas, Holmes, Ebert, Court, and Bayer.
Here is a reference thread:

You know what, i'll actually go ahead and agree with your statement.
Reason?
Simple.
The Sox FO has repeatedly stated that, here, in the draft, is where they will flex their financial muscle, so, unless they were purely and simply bullshitting, then they planned to sign every guy they drafted this year from the get-go.

Re: Sox 2009 Draft signees
PLANNED to sign, and ACTUALLY SIGNING are two completely different things. In a vacuum you can look at a guy who wants 4 mil to sign and say to yourself 'that is a possibility'. But to look at it in conjunction with the guy who wants 2 mil, the guy who wants 3mil and the guy who wants 1.5 mil then it may not be possible to have them all. But you select them to at least have the option of mixing and matching.

I still say they make history this year and sign all of them.

Now I'm not a draft expert, but I would imagine that the Sox have a part of their budget specifically designated for the draft. Some guys are going to want an over-slot signing, and the Sox won't be able to do this for everyone. I can't see them signing everyone.
