Jose Iglesias
I don't see a thread on this young Cuban SS, so I figured I would start one.
Signed for 4 years with a $6m signing bonus. He could be up quickly.
Some video from the AFL. He's got a reputation for being a very smooth fielder and he looks comfortable fielding them in practice.

should be interesting to see where he goes with this franchise.

Re: Jose Iglesias
"The Sox love their new Cuban shortstop, Jose Iglesias.
Epstein said that as they search for a shortstop for this season, it's with the knowledge that Iglesias is the shortstop of the future.
Epstein hopes to get to the Arizona Fall League to see him play."

Re: Jose Iglesias
Sox now have 2 decent shortstop prospects, Iglesias and Renfroe

Re: Jose Iglesias
on a sidenote... I'm guessing there were no "Tyler Durden" posters here last year with those avatars and signatures when the Yankees didn't make the postseason

Re: Jose Iglesias
Iglesias is currently hitting .295/.348/.459.
Impressive for a 19 year old SS with no professional experience who hasn't played organized baseball since he defected from Cuba over a year ago. He is above league average in the AFL (.278/.355/.436). Keep in mind he is playing with AA and AAA players. Expect him to open season at Portland next year.

Re: Jose Iglesias
I'm gonna have to hold to my usual line and say "fall and winter league stats mean practically nothing."
Where we have a hole at SS, it's interesting to see Iglesias performing as he does. However, I'd like to remind the board that in late June, Nick Green's offensive numbers were pretty similar to that. It's nice that he can flash a bit of offense but Iglesias needs to prove he can keep that up over a season before I'm excited.
I definitely liked him making pitchers work in those two plate appearances.
Where is his defense? Is he raw or polished at SS?

Re: Jose Iglesias
He is on the 40 man roster, according to Redsox.com and on Soxprospects.com, so he could be seen on the Sox as early as next seasoon as a September call-up or even in Spring Training.
http://www.soxprospects.com/players/iglesias-jose.htm
this says that he is comparable to Orlando Cabrera.
Hitting is a question mark and his fielding is amazing. it says possible gold glove SS.

Re: Jose Iglesias
that sounds like a better deal than most of the FA's we can acquire, especially if he actually has range.

Re: Jose Iglesias
He'll definitely be in Fort Myers for ST and we'll see him in some games.
