Re: Clay Buchholz
Wonder how long we'll have to wait? This is a team built on pitching and he's a good pitcher who could contribute down the stretch by being unscouted and ON. He's having the expected success at AAA, give him a shot.

He's been scouted, you can bet your ass on that. Like I said before, I dont see him in the majors as a starter this yr.

As long as Julian Tavarez and Wakfield have a spot on this roster, Buchholz should be throwing the ball.
Of course he's been scouted. How many MLB hitters do you think have hit against him? When they say "he has a nose to toes curveball, a harder curveball, a 93-94 heater, and one of the best changeups around" do you really think that will help a player who has never seen him?
No. It will not.
If Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes are able to make the jump and pitch down the stretch there is no reason the best pitcher at AAA (shit, in the entire minorleagues) should be down there. He will get a start at MLB.

Re: Clay Buchholz
I have tickets to see this kid in Buffalo in 2 weeks. It would be my luck that he would be called up right before I got to see him pitch.

Buchholz will probably get the call for one of the two games of the doubleheader, especially since the pitching lineups match up pretty well. I don't think Buchholz will be up in September (unless it's for another spot start or two), and he certainly won't be pitching out of the bullpen since there is no more use for him there. His innings limit is probably going to prevent him from having a significant role--if any role in September, anyway.

Re: Clay Buchholz
The Bucholz Era could start on Friday... as its building up that he will be called up to pitch one of the DH games vs Anaheim

Re: Clay Buchholz
Can someone give me a scouting report on this kid? I know nothing about him.

Re: Clay Buchholz
http://soxprospects.com/players/buchholz-clay.htm
Season Line, Double A Portland and Triple A Pawtucket- 22 games (21 starts) 8-3, 2.15 ERA
117 innings, 78 Hits (.187 avg), 31 Runs (28 ER), 9 HRs, 30 Walks, 164 Ks
The only question is who will be moved to open up a spot for Bucholz. Perhaps it would be the day that they designate Wily Mo for assignment. Then after the game, decide whether it would be Lester or Bucholz that gets sent down to make room for Bobby Kielty

Scouting Report: Buchholz has a low-to-mid 90s four-seam fastball, a two-seam fastball with decent movement, a slider, a hard 12-to-6 curveball, and a change-up. In 2006, Buchholz actually let loose towards the end of the season, when his fastball was sitting around 96 mph. However, over the course of the season his fastball typically sits around 91-94 and tops out at about 97 mph. His plus change-up is generally a straight change that sits around 78-82 mph; he also throws a circle change. His curveball, the best in the organization, sits between 76-81 mph with a knee-buckling bite. On any given night, Buchholz's curve or change can be unhittable, and he tends to rely on whichever is on as his out pitch throughout the game. His slider, while average to above average, is a bit behind his other secondary pitches and sits in the low to mid 80s. Mixes in all of his pitches phenomenally. Good demeanor on the mound. Pitches well under pressure, pitching coaches have said he has ice water running through his veins. Nice pick-off move. Struggled with consistency early in his pro career, but otherwise has ace makeup. Might need to add and maintain some weight to endure a full major league season.
