But I'll go off the scouting sites who considered Hughes curve one of if not the best curveball in the minor leagues last season. And last I checked, Buchholz was in the minors last yr.

But to go one step further, I challenge your premise that they compare them to star players in the first place. Brandon Moss is compared to Lance Berkman because he's obviously going to be a star... wait, no, he's compared to Jay Gibbons. JAY GIBBONS. Kris Johnson: Cliff Lee. Mark Wagner: Rick Cerone. David Pauley: Jason Johnson. The list goes on.
yep every single prospect is sompared to an all star caliber player

Yahoo! fantasy is reporting that the Red Sox will announce Clay Buhholz is starting Saturday's game. Makes sense because the rosters expand tomorrow.

DANG!!! I'm going to Sunday's game.

Haha I'm going tomorrow, but all of the Boston papers have said Tavarez is starting.

Wakefield was supposedly scratched from tonight's start with a sore back. Therefore, Tavarez will take his place tonight, and Buchholz will get the call for tomorrow's start.

A Tavarez-Buchholz-Lester trio is looking mighty fine at this point coming off a sweep at the hands of the yankees...

Glad to hear buchholz is up, but I can't say I take much comfort in turning to Tavarez and Lester. I think it might be about time that I face the music with Lester... I have the sneaking suspicion he needs TJ surgery. His stuff has drastically diminished since I saw him in portland when he won the eastern league pitcher of the year. He had those forearm cramps which is usually a precursor to TJ... I don't know. The kids velocity is way down and his stuff looks pretty ordinary. Not to happy to see him return at this point, not to be insensitive, just being honest. We need to get to the playoffs, and I don't think we have time to let Lester get his legs under him...

Buchholz looked great in his last start for us, though. Some seeing eye singles and not his best stuff and he still handled the Angels really well. I hope he sticks. He could save us.

The FO was very foolish if they expected to get anything from a guy who was roughed up in his rookie year and got cancer.

Kielty looks like a different player since the back spasms. At least he is out there trying. Drew is icing a freakin bruise. He's a gutless piece of crap.

What a lucky break-- first on a foul pop and then on a lazy flyball. 9-6

Right, because having cancer couldn't possibly have anything to do with the "diminishing" of his stuff.

If he hasn't regained his good stuff by next season after a full offseason of working out THEN I think there will be reason for concern. However, speculating about him needing TJ surgery right now is...to say it nice...just plain idiocy.

Idiocy? I don't think so. His velocity was up as high as 96 in april when he was in A ball. He got shelved for a couple weeks because of forearm cramps - usually a warning sign that TJ is on the way, case after case of "forearm cramping" is followed up months later by TJ - when he got back on the hill his velocity went from 91 - 94 to 88 - 91 with the occasional flash of 93ish. That isn't a good sign, and to say its idiocy to speculate about a guys arm when his velocity crashes like that isn't a little careless on your part, I think.

Yeah, he had cancer, and I'm sure that had a lot to do with his diminished stuff late last year. He looked very good and was just coming around when all that happened and I was just as heart-wrenched as anyone.

But he came back to ST in pretty good shape. Gained his weight back well, and his velocity was lagging early in ST, but then it all seemed to be coming back. He was dominating in AAA, and with good velocity. Look at the numbers, his first handful of AAA starts were fantastic, then he got shelved and was barely average against minor leaguers and his velocity fell off the table.

That isn't reason to speculate about a guys arm health?

Sorry, I guess I'm stupid then.

We need Lester to go 6+ strong innings, but I am not confident that it will happen. I'm more optimistic about Bucholz. I was at his first game and the kid loses the zone once in a while, but for the most part he throws strikes and challenges the hitters. His changeup had quite a few hitters off-balance.

I'm not so sure its wise to have C-Buck start tommorow. Apparently C-Buck has been suffering from a tired arm and was going to take a start off. No one game is important enough to risk his health.

I hadn't heard about that, but I don't think they have any other options.
