Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
Who are we willing to trade ? I've heard Kelly Shop. Youk, Alerverez, Clement. Is there more ? Stern, Pedroia, etc. ?

It'll be interesting to see who we DO trade, and what we get for them. Theo should pull the right strings.

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
Pedrioa is only expendable only if we sign Nomar and Move Rents to second
(Only wish full thinking)

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
Oh you want our personal trades?
I agree with MANNYHOF24,
Keep: Papelbon, Hansen, Delcarmen, Ramirez, and Pedroia. Others could be traded to fill holes in like 1B, and our pitching with veterans.

Jon Lester. I'd add Anibal Sanchez too, but he could be dealt. It depends on whether or not the FO is concerned about durability. If his arm will hold up, he's got big league stuff.

Agreed, we really don't want to give up pitching, but the old saying of trade high, buy low applies to both ptching and position players. Once its been determined that a player can't cut it in the majors, they're trade value has been seriously been diminished.

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
Adam Stern can't be dealt just yet, as part of being a rule 5 draft player, he must play at least 90 days with the Red Sox. He appeared in 36 games in his debut season in the MLB, so I expect to see him back as the 4th outfielder this spring
untouchables: Jon Lester, Anibel Sanchez (could be dealt), Hanley Ramirez, Dustin Pedroia, Brandon Moss (could be in line to take right field in 2007 if sox let Trot walk that season), Craig Hansen, Manny DelCarmen (perfect guy to fill in Timlin's shoes), Clay Bucholz, Jacoby Ellisbury (great possibility of future center fielder)

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
I would keep lester and sanchez no matter what. I really like our prospects, but i would deal ramirez, not pedroia though, he is to close to the bigs. Keep papelbon, Hansen, Delcarmen, Youk, Lester, Sanchez, and trade Moss, Murphy, Ramierez or Shoppach.
I don't think we will sign nomar, nor should we, hes was great but he doesnt have the durability to be healthy through a whole season. So, whatever, no big deal. Pedroia is a guy who the sox should not let get away, or he will become another David Eckstein. Think the sox don't want Eckstein back?

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
This is how I see it....
Clearly pitching is the key to victories and its the one area the Red Sox have always had issues. It is not easy to add ace caliber pitching if you look at most teams they develop these guys. You deffinitly see more Johan Santana, Roy Halladay, Barry Zito, Mark Prior guys come up through the system rather than a young Miguel Cabrera and Albert Pujols. Power hitters are uncommon and typically skill position players develop while in the league and see more pitchers in the MLB. They continue to grow and normally peak at the ages of 27-31 right when they are hitting there prime.
You see more of those guys hit free agency and they are a little on the easier side to trade for. My guess is Theo has a vision of packing the farm system with pitching. Then you can also look at the free agent pitchers lately....last season the top free agent pitcher was Carl Pavano...this year its AJ Burnett.....this is not anything to go crazy over. I can see Theo trying to fix the pitching of the Red Sox through the farm system and adding skill position players through free agency.
That being said...down the road I'm seeing Jon Lester and Jonathan Papelbon being a sick 1-2 combo. Both have great stuff and one being a lefty the other being a righty. Anibal Sanchez took huge strides this year and between Buccholz and Bowden...they have a chance to really do something. Meanwhile Craig Hansen is going to be one hell of a closer down the road. He already showed glimpses of it this season while having a tired arm. Just imagine when he gets that slider working and possibly develops another pitch.
If you can trade anyone I would say Hanley, Pedroia, Moss, etc....you can find skill position players in free agency and up for trades.

yes i agree...we have great young pitchers in our farm system....i think any pitcher theo goes after should at most only be a one-year deal, with a one year team option while our young guys get ready..i predict all of our young pitchers will be ready anywhere from the 2nd part of next season to the 1st part of the 2007 season...we have great pitching on the way...theres no reason to go out a sign any pitcher to a long term deal

Re: Who do we keep, who do we trade ?
I think we need to hold on to Zink at least one more year to see what he's got. He learned a new grip for his knuckler at the end of last year, and his stats turned around dramatically. Rob Neyer claims only Phil Neikro, Tim Wakefield, and Charlie Zink had this good a knuckleball by the time they were 24.
