Red Sox sign Chih-Hsien Chiang ( Taiwanese prospect )
Plays short ....

One of Taiwan's best young high school hitters, Chih-Hsien Chiang is a 17 year old multi-positional fielder who even pitches a bit. Born February 21, 1988, Chiang has good size; he stands 6'1" tall and weighs 180 pounds. He throws righty, but hits lefty. Chiang has played at all levels of Taiwan's national teams in international youth and junior aged competitions. Chiang starred as a 2B/OF in the 2003 World Youth Championships (for 13 to 15 year olds), where he led Taiwan to a silver medal, falling only to the US in the championship game. Chiang hit 2 HR's (including a big grand slam against youth powerhouse Cuba) and led the entire tourney in RBI's.

He has good speed and quick feet, as well as the ability to toss 88 mph fastballs, which should help with his transition to the SS position. If he continues to develop, the sky is the limit for him, and his dreams of playing in the MLB someday could become a reality.

I say sign 'em all, and we're certainly signing a bunch in the last couple of days, two asians, and an aussie that all show promise and if all goes right have high-celings, The upside is they have 8 years to learn American baseball and develop while doing it.

I think we should sign star baseball players' unborn children, should they be conceived. Like an agreement. It's the next logical step...

Lol, totally agree there
But in one article, Chiang was one of the three prospects that have caught the eye of most scouts, otehrs include Tzu-Kai Chiu and Hung-Chen Lai

Which would lead to the last, and final, step, paying them for some "samples" and heading to the lab.

Re: Red Sox sign Chih-Hsien Chiang ( Taiwanese prospect )
Ive heard of this kid before, supposed to be good.
But I wouldnt call him a slam dunk yet, hes only 17, still has a long way to go. Same should be said for all of the young guys the Sox have signed recently, none of which have played any professional ball.

I'm more into signing young guys with potential then old farts.
Guess what you say is true about all young players, not just the ones the Red Sox sign.

Absolutely, of coarse. Same would be true if the Yankees, or the Mets, or the Pirates, or the Diamondbacks signed a taiwanese prospect or something.
But anyways, I just looked up some stuff on him, and he seems to be someone who is projected to do VERY well in the american game. (Forgot to copy the links, closed out the windows before it occured to me)

If your could get thsoe links that'd be great, I'd love to learn about this guy or get some sort of idea on how high his ceiling is. Hopefully soxprospects.com gets a scouting report on him soon.
