Re: Who will they sign?
Root for LaPorta to have a great summer in the Cape League. This will showcase his talent for the Sox, and make them more apt to give him 1st round money. I think he will sign if offered 1st round money. If he has a bad summer on Cape Cod and the Sox play hardball with him, then he'll probably return to FL to improve his draft position.

The Red Sox today announced the signing of the team’s first pick in the 2006 first-year player draft, outfielder Jason Place of Wren High School in Piedmont, S.C.
According to the Red Sox, Place, the 27th overall pick in the first round, has reported to the Gulf Coast Red Sox in Fort Myers in the Rookie Gulf Coast League.
“Jason Place is an athletic, power-hitting outfielder,” said Red Sox director of amateur scouting Jason McLeod. “We’re really excited to bring his type of potential impact into the organization.”
The 18-year-old Place, who was recommended by Red Sox scout Rob English, hit .463 (165-for-356) with 36 home runs, 124 RBI, 174 runs scored and 90 stolen bases in 136 career games over five seasons for Wren High School, spending the majority of his time as a centerfielder.
The 6-foot-3, 200-pounder was honored as the 2006 Gatorade High School Player of the Year and South Carolina Region 1-4A Player of the Year after batting .544 with six doubles, four home runs, 20 RBI and 32 runs scored. The righthanded batter posted a .895 slugging percentage and .711 on-base percentage, while stealing 10 bases for the Golden Hurricanes.
Place also earned Region 1-4A Player of the Year and South Carolina All-State honors in 2005 after batting .541 with 14 homers, 25 RBI, 50 runs and 22 steals in 28 games.
The Red Sox also announced the signings of lefthanded pitcher Kris Johnson of Wichita State University, who was the 40th overall selection; the second round pick, righthanded pitcher Justin Masterson of San Diego State University, and the fourth round selection, catcher Jon Still of North Carolina State University.
Johnson, who was recommended by Red Sox scout Ernie Jacobs, went 16-2 with a 2.94 ERA in 32 career games (all but two as a starter) over two-plus seasons for Wichita State. The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder made a career-high 15 starts for the Shockers in 2006, going 6-2 with a 4.86 ERA.
Masterson was 6-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 17 games (all but one as a starter) as a junior in 2006 for San Diego State. He recorded 108 strikeouts in 116.0 innings pitched, an average of 8.4 strikeouts per nine innings. Masterson was recommended by Red Sox scout Dan Madsen.
In his first season with North Carolina State in 2006 after transferring from Stetson University, Still batted .350 with 15 doubles, eight home runs, 58 RBI and 58 runs in 61 games. He was recommended by Red Sox scout Jeff Zona.
Johnson, Masterson, and Still have all been assigned to class A Lowell of the New York-Penn League. The Red Sox have 17 draft selections from the 2006 first-year player draft under contract.
The Red Sox also announced the signings of a pair of undrafted free agents, lefthanded pitcher Jeff Farrell of Southern Connecticut State University and righthanded pitcher Will Mann of Florida Atlantic University. Farrell was assigned to Lowell with Mann going to the Gulf Coast Red Sox.

Re: Who will they sign?
Add another great outfield prospect to the list, where do you think he will be at the end of the season?

Re: Who will they sign?
They better sign Bryce Cox. I watched him pitch tonight and he has nasty stuff. He has shut down reliever potential.

Re: Who will they sign?
Bryce Cox could be the steal of the draft in the 3rd round. If the draft was after the college WS he would have elevated himself to the first round.

Red Sox sign right-handed pitcher Caleb Clay, 44th overall selection in 2006 First-Year Player Draft
BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox today announced that the team has signed righthanded pitcher Caleb Clay of Cullman High School in Cullman, Alabama. The righthander was the 44th overall pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, received by the Red Sox as a compensatory sandwich selection between the first and second rounds. Director of Amateur Scouting Jason McLeod made the announcement. The Red Sox also signed the team's seventh round pick, shortstop Kristopher Negron from Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California.
Clay, who was recommended by Red Sox scout Danny Watkins, went 10-1 with five saves and a 1.29 ERA for Cullman High School in 2006. The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder had 112 strikeouts and only 21 walks in 86.0 innings and helped lead his team to the 5A Alabama State Finals. The righthander also batted .475 at the plate for the Bearcats.
Both Clay and Negron have been assigned to the Gulf Coast Red Sox in the Rookie Gulf Coast League. With the signings, Boston has 19 players selected in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft under contract. The Red Sox also agreed to terms with undrafted free agent lefthanded pitcher David Timm from Embry-Riddle College in Daytona Beach, Florida. Timm has also been assigned to the Gulf Coast Red Sox.
BRESLOW SELECTED FOR TRIPLE-A ALL-STAR GAME: Pawtucket LHP Craig Breslow today was named to the International League squad for the 2006 Triple-A All-Star Game. Breslow is 5-1 with five saves and a 3.23 ERA in 23 games for the PawSox this season. Pawtucket manager Ron Johnson was named as a coach for the IL team, which will be managed by Toledo's Larry Parrish. The game will be played on July 12 in Toledo.

Re: Who will they sign?
Negotiations are expected to heat up this week between the Sox and second first-round draft choice Daniel Bard. The right-hander, who was the 28th overall selection out of the University of North Carolina, asked for some cool-down time after the Tar Heels fell to Oregon State in the College World Series last week.

DUSTIN, remember Breslow, he was the guy in the bullpen making the hand gestures to us.
