Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
jsinger, this is a small detail and not meant to offend or anything, but it looks weird when you're clearly asking a question and you end your question with a period instead of a question mark. You've done that a few times, hah.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
Portland goes to Akron and takes 2 games on the road and now comes home with 3 chances to win the Eastern League Championship. George Kottaras also had another homerun tonight. Edgar Martinez has been placed on the temporary inactive list after the death of his father.

Very nice, very nice. They have a good team. The more I learn about Kottaras the more I like him as a prospect for the future. I know he hasn't been hitting that well but catchers more than any other position need to develop the behind the plate skills as much if not more than offense in order to get a starting gig. He's apparently got some good power.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
He was only hitting sub-par in his brief call-up to Triple A for San Diego. Other than that, he has been rated as a good hitting catching prospect.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
SeaDogs have lost two straight in the playoffs now. It appears they gave up 2 in the 9th today to lose at home. Series tied 2-2

Choke job by Barry Hertzler....Big Edgar would have closed the door and so would have Bryce Cox if they called him up from Wilmington.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
Damn Brandon Moss
Quote:
Playing on his 23rd birthday, Brandon Moss hit his fourth and fifth homers of the postseason in Double-A Portland's loss on Saturday night.
Moss hit .342/.414/.495 in the second half for Portland and he's only gotten better this month. At the very least, he's raising his trade value for the Red Sox. As things stand now, he's set to start next year at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
Seadogs win the EL championship today. So the Red Sox organization has had 2 championships this year along with the GCL Red Sox winning the title.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
Moss was once the #2 rated prospect in the sox system by BA. He has slipped back a bit after being rushed to AA and having repeated AA this past year. He's a good prospect but not someone I would be reluctant to keep if another team asked for him. He doesn't have enough power for a corner outfielder in my eyes. He will start 2007 in Pawtucket unless he is traded in the offseason.

Re: SeaDogs make the playoffs
Moss was named the MVP of the Eastern League Series Playoffs. The Sox have decided against calling him up. Instead he will be sent home to rest up then play in the Dominican Fall League
There is speculation that realtively unknown Double A Portland starting pitcher Devern Hansack could get called-up this week
http://www.portlandseadogs.com/cgi-b...yer=1144161970
Hansack won the deciding game of the series by throwing 8 strong innings, giving up 3 runs
2006 season:
8-7, 3.26 ERA (31 games, 18 starts)
132.1 innings, 122 Hits, 55 Runs (48 ER), 14 HRs, 124 Ks, 36 Walks
