Re: The 2007 baseball draft
AZBlue; Baseball in Puerto Rico isn't what it was perhaps in 20-30 years ago, the Puerto Rican youth isn't any more as baseball crazy as it was back them, but mainly because of the Puerto Rico baseball academy it has been producing and getting drafted a decent number of players the last few years, just not as many as before and many of them aren't ready for pro ball that why you would see a lot of them going to JC and universities in the States.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
With the signing of Julio lugo signing the sox loose their first round pick ( Pick #20) but because of the signing of Alex Gonzalez and when Keith Foulke signs the Sox will getl a sandwitch pick for each, which means the Sox will have two pick between the 40-50 pick.

No, if the Red Sox didn't offer him arbitration then the team could sign him without losing a pick.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
With the signing of Keith Foulke with the indians now officially it means that the Red Sox will have two sandwich picks for loosing Alex Gonzalez and now Foulke. The Sox's picks would be early fortys and late fiftys.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
With the start of the college baseball season its time to get back in this thread and if my time will allow I will be posting updates.
One of the hottest names coming into this college season is Fresno state outfielder Ozzie lewis. lewis is a 6-5 210 21 yrs R/R who potentially has 5 tools, all of his tools are above average and it may not surprise to many that he be an early first round pick.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
In terms of the Sox, I would like to see them go after some SS prospects if possible with their picks. I know that you don't draft looking for a certain position but there seems to be a real need for SS prospects within the org since Hanley was traded.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
The Devil Rays who again in their young history, will have the #1 overall pick in the draft. So far they are expected to take the pitching stud David Price

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
Price looks like the real deal. Power lefty, maybe he'll gain a ton of weight and have a triceps scare so he can fall like Joba did!!

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
Who was the pitcher who had eight walks, but 30 HBP? He's supposedly a good prospect, due to his high strikeout rate, a bit of a temper though.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
I like that in someone. At least we know he will be willing to claim the inside corner.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
Like i posted before middle infielders except high schoolers aren't the strength of this draft and this its a very good draft going into the baseball season. At this point Price is the #1 pick of this draft.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
While the High school baseball season hasn't started, two prospects that has been the talk of the scouting community they are Texa's LHP Jack McGeary and Puerto Rican OF Angel Morales, neither where considered first round picks after last school year, but it may be another matter this coming June. Mc Geary has shown this past fall a fast ball in the 94 range and Morales a potential for five tools.

Re: The 2007 baseball draft
you can bet he'll be on the yankee radar. The yankees need a catcher closer to the bigs than Montero and some left handed pitching.
