He has a .605 OPS in AAA ball.
I mean, he's a good situational hitter, but he's not a big leaguer.

My observations of him have been mostly in the field and he looks very solid at SS. He has good speed, hand and a good arm. He impressed me as a leader on the field. That may not take him very far, but its a rare quality in a young player.

Re: Devern Hansack
That explains why he looks more polished than the other kids.

Re: Devern Hansack
BTW, if Beckett needs a DL stint, you can expect Hansack to be on the mound.

Re: Devern Hansack
The great rotation that everyone was crowing about will not look anywhere near as imposing with hansack and Tavarez taking up two of the slots.

Re: Devern Hansack
You do not have buchholz come up. No way, no how. He has already skipped a level (A+ ball) to get to where he is now. You want him to effectively go through A+, AA, AAA, and the majors in 2 months time? He needs work. Dont rush him.

It was a good thing that the organization found out that Sprowl was a bum and didn't waste any more time on him. What was bad about bringing him up was that the team had a certified Yankee killer in the bullpen--- Bill Lee. Stupid fat Zimmer hated him and spitefully would not let Lee pitch even though Yaz begged him to let Lee pitch. Yaz should have gone Pedro on the stupid old jackass.

Exactly. The point of drafting guys out of college is that they are slightly more polished. Those years count for something too. A guy who comes out of college shouldn't need to spend the same amount of time in the minors as someone who gets drafted out of college.
It is a luxary to wait on your kids to grow up, but Buchholz appears to be the best pitcher in the system at this point. If you're looking at an extended period of needing someone's services I say Lester first, Buchholz second, Hansack etc.,

Re: Devern Hansack
Dontrelle Willis pitched about 36.1 IP in AA ball before coming on and destroying the NL. This concept isn't exactly foreign.
This kid, apparently, has better stuff than Willis as well as better command.
If he can't handle failure, then fuck him. He isn't a good prospect.

Comparing Sprowl to Buchholtz is like comparing apples to a fucking pen.
