Devern Hansack
He no hit the O's for all 5 innings played in the finale. He was a leader on the Portland team that won its league I believe. What are his chances of seeing the field in Fenway this season?

Re: Devern Hansack
Most likely start in Pawtucket and might be one of the first pitchers to get called up if needed

no, he isnt a prospect. He is a AAAA player. Prospects are players who may make the majors with time but will spend a significant amount of time in the majors. A career minor leaguer is someone who plays in the minors for a career up close to their 30th b-day.

Re: Devern Hansack
I think Hansack will be a solid major leaguer for the next 5-6 years. Plus this is not he Prospect forum, it is the MINOR LEAGUES FORUM.

he will be claimed by another team by the end of the first month of baseball. Then nobody will hear from him again.

he will be bumped off the roster as soon as the sox sign a few players and he'll be placed on waivers.

Re: Devern Hansack
you know what dude, I do not feel like arguing with you. I started a thread because I feel like he is a good player who could help the Sox out. And all you want to do is figure out why everything I say is wrong. Why don't you try and have an idea or insight instead of going around badgering people?

Re: Devern Hansack
I think he is a guy who was thrown a bone at the end of the yr against a team that did not want to be there in the rain. Thats it.

Re: Devern Hansack
his ERA in the minors was under 3 last season, and while I do not expect him to throw no hitters or even start, he is better than Lenny Dinardo or probly any of our long relievers last season

in AA he was. He had one good start and now he is better than the sox long relievers (which isnt saying much). Lets not build this guy up, he is Aaron Small redux until proven otherwise.

Re: Devern Hansack
Hansack will compete with Snyder & Gabbard for the long reliever role

Re: Devern Hansack
I don't think we know what Hansack is yet. Remember, he was out of baseball for two years. He's pretty damn likely to end up as filler, but if his upside is a trading chip after a few successful low-lev innings, I'd take that.
Just to play devil's advocate though, I'll point out that we've got a thread dedicated to acquiring Brendan Donnelly going on and he didn't hit the majors till he was 30. So strange things can happen. True, he had more development time, but he also had more miles on the arm.
