$46 million man Igawa sent down to Single A

Yankees optioned LHP Kei Igawa to Single-A Tampa.

 

The Roger Clemens signing hasn't stopped the Yankees from changing the plans around on a daily basis. Now Darrell Rasner is going to remain the rotation. Igawa was effective in three of his six appearances, but he was bad enough in the other three to result in a 7.63 ERA. The Yankees will have to give him another chance sooner or later, and he may be a perfectly adequate fourth or fifth starter when it happens. Still, spending $46 million to get him was never a good idea.

Yankees purchased the contract of RHP Matt DeSalvo from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

 

DeSalvo will start tonight and is supposed to stay in the rotation until Roger Clemens is ready, though two bad starts would likely be enough for the Yankees to change that plan. He's not worth taking a chance on in AL-only leagues.

 

Until Clemens first start, this is the rotation:

It's funny the Yankees paid that much for him, but I also see humor in the fact that a guy being sent down to A ball shut out the Sox for six innings a few weekends ago.

 

He has the talent and stuff to be a #5 starter, but he's having serious trouble making the switch from Japan to American ball.

You have to realize that he is not as poor as your average single A pitcher. Normally the guy would have been sent down to AAA, but they probably want him to work with Yankee officials down in Tampa. So the only reason it's A rather than AAA is because that's where the organizational brain trust is located.

that's a pretty big statement considering our Japanese reliever makes $1.2 million and mows you guys down in the 9th, A-Rod included
