Default George Kottaras

Is this guy ever going to amount to anything? Or does he have good trade value?

Who knows, he looks more like a back-up C at this point, and his trade value is very little if any. He had a great July, but has been bad in August. One thing I did notice is his Home/Away split
Home: .154/.215/.243/.457
Away: .317/.412/.524/.936

idk if it means much but its a pretty big difference

Kottaras has experience catching the knuckleball (Steve Sparks in Padres minors system, and the Red Sox's Charlie Zink). Other than that I see at least some potential in him. Right now he's the top candidate to be the backup next season, whether Wake comes back or not

wouldnt be surprised if Kottaras is your backup next yr. I think his potential has been minimized to backup catcher and if he plays every 5th day, he might put it together, who knows.

While Kottaras value its way down organizations don't give away LH catchers. Kottaras will be back in Pawtucket in 2008 at least for the first half of the season unless there's injuries at the ML, as a 24 yrs he is still a prospect.

So you see the Sox signing a free agent backup catcher this offseason?

Kottaras isn't ready for the ML, not even as a back up, as for a back up catcher for 2008 it all depends the Sox plans with Wakefield, if he is coming back i won't be surprised if Mirabelli gets resigned.

Is he going to get called up when rosters expand? Giving him some of Mirabellis starts and seeing how he catches Wakes knuckle and seeing his offense can help us see if we can save ourselves from having to sign Belli next season.
