Default Hank Blalock

Peter Gammons says the Sox could get Blalock for Crisp, if none of the Big 3 options work out.

Quote:
• Boston has offered Mike Lowell three years at well more than $30M, but the J.D. Drew $14M-per-year barrier is still a major problem. Boston would like to get Lowell done and move Coco Crisp for young pitching and/or catching (Minnesota has the pitching), but the Red Sox have to get Lowell signed or make a move for a third baseman. They can get Hank Blalock in a Crisp deal, but don't seem inclined, as of now. The Padres wouldn't discuss young third baseman Chase Headley for Crisp.

No thanks. He's been on a decline in his last 4 (and only) full seasons. Thoughts?

As a last resort i wouldn't mind that. Hes quite young and i think he needs a change of scenery. The guy did have 30 hrs in 04. I think if he played a full season he probably would have had like 20 hrs which is solid. That said i prefer Lowell but i wasn't expecting to get much for Coco anyway.

On the contrary we may find a decent return for Coco Crisp. A number of teams are looking at him and any team that gets him will increase there defense dramatically.

No thanks on Hank Blalock. His .543 slugging in 2007 was in slightly over 200 ABs and the best of his career. Not to mention the fact that he's got pretty dramatic home/road splits.

The Sox would probably be better off moving Youk to third and playing Chris Carter at first.

No me gusta Hank Blalock.

I'd take Blalock AND Laird for Crisp, and I'd throw in a mediocre MiLB pitcher who's MLB-ready...maybe David Pauley.

I actually was thinking that the other day. Laird makes sense.

I expected Blalock to be a big star, but he has regressed instead of improving. Has the league's pitchers figured him out and he has not adjusted? He's a dead red fastball hitter. He's one of the few hitters that I have seen that could get on top of a Mo Rivera fastball. Is he all he could be, or does he need a change of scenery.

blalock isnt a bench guy yet. he has struggled a bit over the past couple yrs but i think thats mainly due to injuies. hes awful against lefties however. but i still think he can be a solid 3bman in his career. i dont see him being a bench guy at this pt.
