Default Yankees frontrunners for Mahay

This is per Olney's blog, for which requires insider and I dont have that anymore. Either way, I read a cut and pasted version on another site.

Nothing definitive, but he would fill the need.

I love it when the Yanks pick up our cast-offs from years ago. In a pinch, he can play CF.

I dont like the idea of Mahay simply because this is the first yr in which he dominated lefties vs righties. Plus, he's 36 and would also require a 3 yr deal. I'd really like it if someone swooped in and nabbed him.

We are also looking at Linebrink. While I think he is intriguing, he would cost a 1st rounder (if offered arb) and he has now had 2 yrs of 1.3 WHIP performance guy in declining fashion. I dont think locking this guy in for 3-4 yrs is good either. I'd much rather keep Gascan, and fill the rest of the pen with some of the live arms we have down on the farm.

Sounds like Mahay is close. 2 yrs 7 mil is what is being reported right now, although it may not be finalized for a week or so due to the holiday. Like I said, not terribly enthused when we have some young arms that could do the trick, but we could have done worse.
