No' date=' the command still isn't there, but at least the walks are scattered.[/quote']I know he had a reputation for good command and we have been surprised by all the walks, but I was thinking about the number of pitches he threw in Japan. We've all heard the stories about him throwing 150-160 pitches in a game. Unless he was pitching into extra innings, why would he be throwing so many pitches? He must have been going 3-2 alot. What was his walks per 9 in Japan?

His career would be kind of skewed because it was extremely high when he was 19-20 years old and has basically come down in every season since. In my Dice-K thread I calculated he had a 1.60 BB/9 last year and a 2.00 BB/9 in the year before.

The stats are about 3/4 down. (BB/9 ratio is 3.22, so good, but not elite)

I've also heard that he was treated like a Curt Schilling in Japan. If he missed by four inches, they called it a strike. I don't know how big a factor that is.

Pedroia has raised that avg to .270

5 game hitting streak

9 for 15 (.600 avg) 3 Doubles, HR, 5 RBIs, 5 Runs, 2 Walks, K

Whats interesting about this streak is that back on May 1 he was batting .172

If you consistently gave any ML pitcher a couple of extra inches on both sides of the plate and they'd perform like all stars. Let's hope that he can adapt to a different strike zone and still be dominant.

Last three years for Dice-K he posted a 2.02 BB/9.

Those numbers aren't 100% accurate. You have to adjust for league difficulty.

If league difficulty is a good barometer of translating stats. Dice-K was probably saved 7/10ths of a walk every nine innings.

Thats probaly about right, i suspect it'll be in the 2.50-3.00 range for this season
