Sox can and will clinch tonight. I can't believe it. It has yet to hit me really. 86 years of futility to be erased, if not tonight, then very very soon.

You half expect the Cardinals to win this game, they really shouldn't be losing as badly as they are right now. But I think the sox have the advantage. B)

Come on, wouldn't you like the Cards to win tonight so the Red Sox could win the World Series at Fenway? Or is that too much of a gamble?

The cards would have to win today and tomorrow to bring it back to Fenway. It would certainly be better for the team and the city to have the sox win at Fenway, and it would raise the excitement level by that much, but I dont know if its worth giving St. Louis 2 games. They could certainly win them, but I'll still be rooting for the sox. :D

No sir I do not.

I don't want any more drama. My heart can't take it.

The last thing we need is for the Cardinals to feel like they've got any life left in them. I want Marquis to get LIT UP in the first inning and for the Sox to never look back.

I don't even want the Cardinals to LEAD in this game. The only way this gets back to Fenway is if St. Louis wins 2 straight games, then the pressure's on our guys and EVERYONE's talking about Billy Buckner, Bucky Dent, The Babe, etc.

We've had the drama already in the ALCS. We celebrated winning the AL Pennant AT YANKEE STADIUM for crying out loud.

I want them to win tonight.

the sox were the best team in the majors this season. i want a total stomping of the team with the best record in the majors to prove it once and for all.

I'd prefer a world series ring to prove it once and for all. ;)

Some facts about today's game:

before this season, Derek Lowe was 1-4 with a 3.49 ERA in the postseason. 2 of those losses came in the ALCS last year against the Yankees.

This year, he's 2-0 with a 2.92 ERA.

Overall this season, he was 6-8 with a 6.21 ERA on the road.

He deserves a TON of credit for pitching well enough to beat the Yankees TWICE in the ALCS this season.

Jason Marquis has no record and a 6.48 ERA this postseason. He pitched 1 inning in the World Series (game 2) and walked 2 batters. He averaged 6.17 K/9 over the season, but walked more than ANY other St. Louis starter this season (70).

Given Lowe's 2 good performances in the ALCS, and Marquis' lack of experience (and has not pitched well this postseason), I give the edge to Boston as far as starting pitchers go.

Key for Lowe: Stick to what works. Don't try to get Ks, just groundouts. Stay with your strength, you'll be fine.

Key for Boston hitters: Make Marquis work. He's got GREAT stuff, but if you make him work, he'll have to come into the strike zone.

I'm getting chills just thinking about tonight.

Once you have a team down, never let them up, don't give them a single reason to feel good about themselves. The Sox need to finish this and finish as soon as possible. Trot showed signs of coming around and Manny, Mueller, Cabrerra, Ortiz and Damon need to stay locked in at the plate. I expect Lowe to be sharp just like Game 7 of the ALCS.

GO SOX!!!!

This says it all I think. Lowe has been an absolute gem for us this postseason.

Anyone who wrote a screenplay about what has ocurred in the the last 2 weeks in Boston baseball history would be laughed out of Hollywood. Once again, truth is way better than fiction.

The one thing none of you guys are thinking about is this: there is NO guarantee that Schilling can pitch again in game 6. So if he can't, and if the Cards are on a roll, do you really want them to face Arroyo? And if they happen to force a game 7, they will be pumped to high hell and I will bet the farm they would hammer Pedro the next night.

So no, please end this before they cream Wakefield in game 5 like they already did in game 1.

Yea, I'm kind of nervous as to what the sox would do in game 6 and beyond. Arroyo would go in 5, but then what.

Good point RSR, we should win today. :D

Championships are won by being ruthless. When your opponent is down, don't put your hand out and help them up. You stick the boots in.

Momentum is such a powerful force in sport. You only have to look at the 9th inning of game 4 for how one hit can generate enough momentum to win a series from 0-3 down. The Cards are playing badly and the Sox are red hot, but it only takes one inning, one hitter, one pitch to swing the momentum of a game and even a series.

Let's not take that chance!

And just a sign of how big this is, the newspaper today dedicated a whole page to the Red Sox. In a place where baseball is not very popular and the usual article take up about 3 inches of paper space, this is a big thing!

Hey all, just a reminder. I'm not sure if this is posted anywhere else, but tonight there is supposed to be a lunar eclipse (I think in the US only) that will turn the moon RED! How's that for f'n cool?

We cant let up. Thats the reason we beat the yankees, they thought there series was over and we came back. Not to take anything away from the Sox for the comeback...but the yankees were just too damn cocky. Its 3-0 in the 7th right now but there still time left. We cant let up.

3 more outs....
