Then maybe this your year to make some coin on the tourney...I find the little bit of success I might have in these sort of things comes when I have no emotional attachment to any teams and could almost care less.

Jacko is the eternal optimist. He believes everyone is in the best shape of their life, players will recover their lost magic, marginal players will turn into bona fide solid major leaguers, etc.
I think everyone sucks. Somewhere, in between our two viewpoints, the truth lies. A lot closer to me, I believe.

Crunchy, enjoy the show the Bruins are putting on. The Celtics obviously go without mentioning, but recently the Bruins have been playing quite impressively.

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
A couple of years ago, I went to Fenway on a Saturday afternoon after Colon had pitched either on Thursday or Friday. He was shagging fly balls in CF with the other OFers. He could chase down the ball, and he made some really good catches. I remember thinking that he was not just a fat pitcher, but that he was a very talented athlete in a fatman's body.

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
I think if Bartolo Colon is 100 percent healthy this ould be an amazing thing for the Sox. If you look at the last 2 seasons with the Angels he wasn't even close. Who knows he might be even better then Curt Schilling. I mean Curt kinda had a average year at best he only had 9 wins, almost a 4 ERA and was injured again.

Newsflash: Schilling is out for the majority of the yr.
Newsflash#2: Colon will never be the same pitcher he was when he was winning CY

Newsflash: Wang is worthless in the PO, Pettite is a yr older and has baggage, Mussina is holding on by a thread, Hughes and Kennedy are both unknowns and health risks. The pitching depth behind this is suspect......
Sorry I thought we where stating the obvious

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
Colon doesn't have to be the old CY he is not our 1, 2, or even 3.
I think he'll end up helping and could be a big plus

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
I don't think we neccessarily need Colon to be anything other than a mop up guy to have a successful season. Schillings injury, IMO, is going to turn out to be more of a blessing than a burden. Buchholz is ready. I love his stuff, and I think Lester is ready for 200. The only people who have spoken about a innings cap on Lester are people outside of the organization. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Theo has commented on limited Lesters innings like he has with Buchholz, but still, I'm not concerned with Buchholz only being alotted 160-180. I expected as much. A midseason stop on the 15 day DL could probably take care of it. Schilling was going to do as much anyways. Maybe by then we can have a better read on Schill's progress and they can spell each other down the stretch.

Is this serious?
Lester's IP:
2004 - 91
2005 - 148.1
2006 - 128.1
2007 - 153
We're expecting a 30% increase in Lester's innings? I don't care who you are...that's a lot.
160, 175 is one thing. 200? Doubtful.

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
I'll be willing to put money on lester being in the 185 - 200 range barring injury, unless of course its work related fatigue in which case I'd pay up. You have to eventually stop treating them with kid gloves, I'm for throwing young pitchers right in the mix.
Didn't we go through this exact same thing with Buchholz? I figured he'd do 180, so does Theo, that whole thing? Lets make it simple this go-round. If Lester breaks camp in the rotation, lets make it interesting. Signatures on the line. I assume you're more honorable than Jacko, and would pay up if wrong.

Re: Sox, Colon reach minor league deal
Really don't think he's reaching that limit because of the fatigue related issues.
You can get by with him at 175-180.
