Sox Acquire Kotsay

Quote:
NEW YORK – The Boston Red Sox acquired outfielder Mark Kotsay from the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night pending a physical, according to a baseball source with knowledge of the deal. The Braves will receive a minor-league pitcher in return.
The Red Sox acquired Kotsay, who had cleared waivers, as outfield insurance. Earlier Tuesday they placed right-fielder J.D. Drew on the 15-day disabled list with a herniated disk in his back.
Kotsay, 32, is batting .289 with six home runs and 37 RBIs in 318 at-bats this season. The Red Sox will be his fifth team in his 12-year career.
Officials from both teams would not confirm that the deal was complete.

Not a bad pickup in my opinion.
Who thinks the "minor league pitcher" is Buchholz?

LOL I hope this is you being a comedian LOL
I guess with whats available its not a bad insurance policy. Maybe coming back to the AL, will help Kotsay's bat.

THat would be an obscene overpay. Buchholz might be struggling but he's still a very nice talent.

Re: Sox Acquire Kotsay
Clay Buchholz for one month of Mark Kotsay.
Does that make sense AT ALL?

Re: Sox Acquire Kotsay
Sox in talks on Kotsay
Posted by Amalie Benjamin, Globe Staff August 26, 2008 11:39 PM
NEW YORK -- Though a couple of websites have reported that the Red Sox are nearing a deal with the Braves to bring Mark Kotsay to Boston, the Sox appear not quite that close. A source close to the situation said the team still is talking with Atlanta about the center fielder, though a deal has not been agreed upon.
Kotsay, who is signed through the end of this season, has a limited no-trade clause. It is not known if the Red Sox are one of the teams on that list.
While Kotsay would be insurance for J.D. Drew, who went on the disabled list today with a strained lower back, the center fielder also has had back trouble this season. He has suffered through a bulging disk, which put him on the disabled list earlier this season.

In what might be the biggest name traded before Sunday's deadline for setting postseason rosters, Braves center fielder Mark Kotsay is headed to Boston.
The Red Sox have acquired Kotsay for a mid-level prospect, according to major-league sources. The player headed to Atlanta hasn't been identified yet.
To complete the deal, Kotsay waived his no-trade clause for the Red Sox, one of eight teams on his no-trade list according to his contract.
Kotsay will receive a $325,000 assignment bonus for waiving his no-trade protection.

Re: Sox Acquire Kotsay
Eh. Numbers are okay. Definitely not Bucholz for one month of Kotsay, they aren't that off base.

Good pickup I guess. The Sox are obviously worried about someone's health.
