Shades of the bad old days
Went into the postseason with certain expectations.
Instead, we got fed undiluted crap by everyone who should have been great for us.
*sigh*
Always next year.
The Angels were ridiculously due against anyway. But still, this kind of chokejob is hard to deal with..
The worst of it is, it's probably about to be followed up by the Yankees grinding up Minnesota to make the ALCS themselves.
No I take that back. The VERY WORST of it is going to be anyone who lives within about 500 miles of the state of New York and having to watch and listen to their media for an entire offseason.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
It's not a choke, it's just terrible performance. The sox didn't have huge expectations, they weren't up 2-0 only to lose it in game 5. It was just suckitude.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
The whole series was a choke. There's no reason you can give why we shouldn't have been competitive in this series.

Ahh, I remember this feeling. It's the feeling of being a Red Sox fan.

Next year i suggest you take a bat and go DH so you avoid the "Choking".
This team has been terrible on the road all year.
Just coincidence they lost a competitive first game at home.

This is different though yeszir. Being a sox fan in the past meant feeling like they didn't stand a chance. This team is too good to be that bad. Too good to be swept.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
Our 3 best pitchers didn't get it done, and our offense was dead when it counted. Brutal series start to finish.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
Doesn't matter. A 3-game sweep is the same as a loss in 5.

I dunno. The worst pain came when you felt like they DID have a chance. 2003 comes to mind. 99 too, especially after that series with Cleveland.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
The thing I hate is that we started this off with a brutal game (some might say two games) by the umpires.
Losing on our own merits I can take. Having help is another matter

Re: Shades of the bad old days
Actually, this doesn't sting at all like it used to. After game 1 I felt like they had no shot. And it sucks that Papelbon blew it, but I can't hate him like I hate Grady Little.

I agree. 2003 was the worst. Couldn't be worse. Not technically possible to get worse than that game.

Re: Shades of the bad old days
Nah, Papelbon is still what he always really was, it's just that some of the air is let out of our impression of him.
Very talented pitcher and a franchise caliber closer who had a rough game at literally the worst possible time.
