Consolation Thoughts Thread
Some reassuring things following the Sox loss to the Angels, probably a short lived but (for me at least) essential thread:
* Buchholz looked good. There's reason to think he'll be a good pitcher in the future
* The Red Sox have addressed their catching situation this year by getting Victor Martinez. That's an important development.
* The Angels have had really, really good teams the past few years. They too have been swept before and have lost when they were expected to win. There's no shame in having the Angels for company.
* Speaking of company, the Cardinals (many people's odds-on NL favorite) were eliminated first.
* The Red Sox did not lose to the Yankees in the ALCS.
* Many of us could tell this team wasn't good enough to win it all
* The sour taste in our mouth will increase excitement both for the offseason and the beginning of next year
* The sour taste should also be in John Henry and Theo Epstein's mouth. Hopefully Henry is writing Theo a check for $50m to spend on FA's right now.
Feel free to add other things...

Re: Consolation Thoughts Thread
Consolation: The Red Sox record is a tribute to their manager and they won way more games than their performance should have indicated.
Utter realism: The sox need a lot of changes to get back to being championship contenders. Their stand pat attitude after 2008 was a killer

So did the Yankees. By 8 games.

You're full of shit Jacksonian. Their "stand pat" attitude was nonexistent. They pursued Teixeira, they didn't stand pat. They didn't go all out, but they didn't stand pat.

Re: Consolation Thoughts Thread
There are to many holes in their lineup. I think the starting pitching is fine. We need a big bat. I dont want to bring it up but Tex could have been the difference and I'll leave it at that. We need to find a bat though or else next year will be more of the same.

Re: Consolation Thoughts Thread
Jacko with the consolation that's really a dig. The backhanded compliment. No surprise.
The reality is they played to their pythag. They were as good as their record, but they did it in hot/cold fashion, and the cold showed up for the playoffs. Take the good with the bad.
My consolation? Don't need one, I'm not upset and don't need consoling. On to fixing the team.

I'll have some patience (not assuming everything is trolling) but I will call 'em like I see 'em. Gom is doing nothing but trolling. Jacko is still waiting for someone to call his views on baseball smart. It's a sad need, but I think it is less pointedly trollful than Gom. Even other Yankee fans don't like Jacko.

Overall I don't need much consolation. Today's game gives me the need for some consolation, but overall I totally agree with you.
I started a thread about "what would be a good 2009" and I said "make the playoffs". They did, they weren't watching from home... I just want them to be competitive with the Yankees from now on.
