Since Derek Lowe looks like he will test the free-agent pool next year, why not just trade him. The Sox can trade him for another free-agent to be pitcher or package him in a deal for a bat. The pitcher I always thought about first was Matt Morris, the Cardinals' righty who is only 29. The Sox could also take a shot at packaging Lowe and perhaps a minor leaguer or two ( Youkilis, Hanley RAmirez ) and deal them for a bat like Ordonez or Beltran, both of whom will most likely be dealt in July if their teams are out of contention.
REMEMBER, THESE ARE ONLY IDEAS, NOT RUMORS. TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK

HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST TRADING AWAY HANLEY AND YOUKI. The sox have traded away prospects for long ehough, I think we need to hang on to them.
As far as trading Lowe away goes, I'd make every possible effort to resign him (short of killing Scott Boras), and if that fails, a trade may be possible. Morris, in my mind, is a bit risky beacuse of injuries and such (they work him like a dog in St. Louis), but:
Pedro
Schill
Morris
top 3 would be amazing.

i didn't mean Hanley and Youkilis. . sorry yeszir. I meant one or the other.
But if we were to trade one of them i would have meant for us to get a guy like Beltran, whose like 27, oly 2 years older than Youkilis. Plus, Beltran can do it all, incvluding hitting for power ( like your pal Youki can't do)

I know thats what you meant, and I'm against it. Personally, I'm too big a fan of these guys to see them go, without even having given them a chance to show what they can do in the majors.
Also, about Beltran, he'd most likely command a large salary, and I'm not sure that the sox would want to give that much money up for one guy, especially considering we're losing just about everyone and we need to fill in those gaps. I realize we would have a lot of money left over if we lost all of those FA's, but it may be better spent than in Beltran. I think our outfield is the least of our worries.

Yeszir's just a wee bit high on the farm system if you ask me. If it means getting Beltran, then yea, I guess I'd give up Hanley (provided we can resign nomar, I hope it happens!). But youki I want. He's a keeper.

hey, before you guys kill me, or worse, excommunicate me from Red Sox Nation, hear me out. I don't think Youkilis will develop into quite the special player you think he will. Only because the kid is 24 and didn't do too well in AAA. I think that the best option right now for the Red Sox is to trade him for a superstar that is young ( cough ) Beltran ( cough ). I just don't think that he will develop into a superstar like you all do. All right thats all i got to say.

Youkilis for Beltran would be alright for me. I HIGHLY doubt that that would happen, and I'm sure a lot of people would be upset. I want to see Youkilis play in a redsox uniform, thats for sure, but maybe Beltran could do better. Or maybe he'd be a bust. We dont want to lose another Jeff Bagwell.

yeah, but do you think that Youkilis is going to start juicing up like Bagwell? Plus, if we trade Youkilis for someone like Beltran, he's still young and probably hasn't reached his prime yet. Besides it's not like we are trading Youkilis for Larry Anderson.
