5yrs $70-$75 mil. I am pretty sure the Yankees just cringed after seeing that. Martin's worth just went through the roof

Well, they had some free payroll after Albert went off the books. Not sure if this is the best way to spend it though.

Why would Martin's worth go through the roof? He's not that good...
I think they are very comparable. The knock on Martin that will hold down his value is his injury history. He's not as good as Yadier defensively, but Yadier is in a class by himself right now. Martin is the next level down.

Martin is not comparable to Molina. Not only is Molina in his own universe defensively, but he exploded offensively at the perfect time last year.

He's the best catcher in baseball at the moment.

Agreed. This really doesn't affect Martin at all. In fact the Cards got a decent deal considering just how good Yadier is behind the plate.

Martin threw out a higher percentage of base stealers last season. Over their careers, Martin has been the better offensive player.

Martin has the better offensive track record and had a good season a yr ago offensively while being incredibly unlucky (.252 BABIP). Martin threw out more baserunners and anchored a surprising rotation. I am not sure what else you want. Molina never had a strong offensive track record until he had a career yr with a .311 BABIP. He's not that kind of hitter. I am absolutely sure that Martin's agent will argue their similarities when he hits FA at yrs end. He's also a yr younger than Molina

I would love for the Yanks to drop 5 years and 80M in Martins lap. I doubt it will happen though. I don't see anyone giving Martin on the open market more the 4-5 years at 10-12M, and I like Martin.

While I don't see Martin getting Molina money, this probably did raise the bar a bit for what he will ask in any extension talks or when he hit's FA.

Defensively Martin isn't even in the same planet as Molina. It's a non-argument.

Even in Molina's worst season throwing base runners out, overall, he allowed a measly 46 SB.

Martin allowed twice as many stolen bases. It goes to show you how much one can control and limit the running game compared to the other.

Or how poor their pitchers hold runners

Why are we talking about Martin? Oh yeah, that's right, Jacko started the thread. He always finds a way to transgress a discussion, about anything, into how awesome something is in Yankeeland.

In other news today, attacks on civilians in Syria continued, and the UN is considering a humanitarian foreign aid package, which clearly means that Brett Gardner will have an MVP caliber season for the Yankees. Film at 11:00.

Somebody needs their midol today. Nobody would give a s*** about the thread if it stayed with Molina. The only reason why I care about it is how it is going to translate into Martin's contract situation.

Didn't you get on my s*** for purposely trying to change a subject?

You are way off on your interpretation of my post. No meds needed, I'm not upset. I couldn't care less about this thread as is, with Martin being the centerpoint of discussion, as you intended it. I just noticed your tactic to turn some piece of news into Yankees discussion and made a joke about it.

I love Yadier. Underrated hitter, and the best defensive C in baseball right now.

I have him on all my fantasy teams, and he's kicking ass.

Molina is in a whole other level on D. It's not about runners threw out it's also about intimidation, runners don't even try to go on Molina. And that's not talking about other aspects of defense Molina is far Superior at. Molina might cool down offensively, but his defensive abilities are imminent if you ask me. I don't see this contract as all that bad. But giving Martin even a 30 mil. 5 years contract would be a flop imo.
