i dont understand what the D-backs are thinking on this one. They wanted SP and got a spot-starter/middle reliever and an average 2B.

Glaus really isn't that big of a deal.

No Glaus isn't that big of a deal. Manny has said that he would gladly go to Seattle to escape Boston. My thoughts are if he wants to go to Seattle of all places, let him go there.

Seattle:
Manny R.
Matt Clement
Abe Abverlez

Boston:
Richie Sexson
Raul Ibanez
Jeremy Reed

Then we trade Wells for Chris Young, straight up.
Then we trade Trot Nixon and Youk/Arroyo for Ryan Church and Jose Vidro and have Vidro play 2b while Loretta plays SS.

Opening Day Lineup

Loretta-SS
Vidro-2b
Ortiz-DH
Sexson-1b
Lowell-3b
Ibanez-LF
Tek-C
Church-RF
Reed-CF

SP
Beckett
Wake
Schilling
Young
Paps

BP
Foulke-CL
Seanz-SU,Cl
Mota-SU,CL
Timlin-MR
Hansen-MR
Dinaro-MR Lefty, Long Reliver(gets replace by Lester, is just Lefty)
Lester-Long Reliver, Alt. SP when he comes up(after All-Star break)

Back Ups
Cora-2b,SS
Marte-3b, could learn to play 1b too(as a backup)
Stern-4th OF
Moss-5th OF, when he comes up after All-Star break
Hucklby/Flatery-C

Trade Youk/Arroyo(whichever one is left over) for pitching prospects.

I don't know why I do this, its kinda fun for me, any comments?

the sox might just think glaus is not woth one of their sp's that they can use as trade bait, since they can play youk at first, or marte at third with lowell at first
where as we have nobody to play at cf and ss

so the two sps that we trade should be used to get a cf and a ss

The Red Sox took a hit from their fan base for not coughing up the money to keep Johnny Damon, but there were signs yesterday the team was recovering by trying to put together a deal for a big bat and another big-name starter.
Troy Glaus, the Arizona Diamondbacks’ slugging third baseman, has been the focus of recent trade talks between the clubs. However, the Sox are not the only team interested in Glaus, whose fly ball power stroke makes him a natural fit for 20-30 home runs a season at Fenway Park. The Sox want him as a first baseman.

The Blue Jays were believed to be furthest along in talks with the Diamondbacks last night, but according to one executive who recently spoke with former Red Sox assisant GM and current Arizona GM Josh Byrnes, “I think he’s going to Boston, that’s what it sounds like.”
As tempting as Glaus might be, there were indications that the primary focus now is obtaining another pitcher first. That brings in free agent starter Kevin Millwood.
Signing Millwood would allow the Sox to trade one of three starters - David Wells, Matt Clement or Bronson Arroyo - possibly in a Glaus deal or in some other configuration.
A deal for Baltimore shortstop Miguel Tejada remains a longshot, especially with the Orioles more focused on swapping Tejada for Chicago Cubs pitcher Mark Prior. That deal is alive but currently involves just two teams.
Exactly what the Diamondbacks were looking for in return from the Sox was unclear, although if the Sox were willing to assume the bulk of the $32.5 million remaining on Glaus’ deal for the next three years, the cost in players may not be as high as one would think.
Team president and CEO Larry Lucchino said Wednesday at Fenway Park that the Sox would “redeploy” the dollars slated for Damon. The $40 million they had allotted for Damon for four years certainly would cover Glaus, 29, who had 37 homers last season for Arizona.
However, it would not address the Sox’ glaring need for a center fielder, leadoff hitter and shortstop.

Im still trying to figure this one out

BUt there is no doubt the Jays will be a pretty good team.

Thats all fine and dandy...but you're getting nothing in return for Manny. And do you seriously think the Padres will do Young for Wells straight up? Wells is over 40 and this kid young could potentially be a superstar.

2002 first-round pick Sergio Santos is expected to be the prospect included in the Troy Glaus deal with the Blue Jays.
That makes a lot of sense, as the Diamondbacks want to commit at Chad Tracy at third base and also have Stephen Drew, and hopefully Justin Upton, at shortstop. Santos hit just .239/.288/.367 in a disappointing first year in Triple-A, but he only turned 22 in July. He could become a quality regular after another year or two in the minors. Dec. 23 - 10:58 pm et
a first round pick who hasnt done much in the minors, but good potential. Josh Byrnes blew this deal

We could add whichever one the Nats don't want, Youk or Arroyo.

I think you'll be singing a different tune in a few years. The D-Backs are loaded with corner IF and OF prospect talent, and Byrnes just added some middle IF talent into the mix while opening a hole for Chad Tracy. This team will be good in a couple of years.

Not likely. Most of Boston's moves thus far have improved the post-2006 team more than the 2006 one, which suggests a forward-looking FO, IMO. Toronto is acting very much like a "win now" team, and those types tend to offer more to get the deal done.

Glaus isn't worth giving up much for since he comes with a grande contract and a .250 batting average. I ranted on that earlier but people seem to be allergic to my posts.

the guy is approaching 1000 strike outs in 8 ML Seasons. 3 of those seasons he played well under 100 games and got fewer than 300 AB's, his rookie season and his two injury hampered seasons. Im just pulling that out of memory so 300 AB's might be a little generous. Glaus sucks guys. Jose Valentin can hit home runs, but do we want him? No, he just gets less respect because hes ugly.
