Troy Glaus
http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5190880
Sox rumored to be one of the teams in on him.
Personally, with Manny pissed off and Damon gone, I think acquiring Troy Glaus has got to be on the top of the priority list. No matter who the centerfielder is next season, it won't match Johnny's production, so we need to improve first base. Frankly, Troy Glaus is a tremendous option there.
YES, he strikes out a lot. YES, he's got a .258 career average, but this guy is a power hitter in the true sense of the word, and his .363 OBP is certainly not horrible.
The Red Sox need to look into this possibility, and if the Diamondbacks are seriously interested in unloading that contract and his potent bat, I'd be thrilled to see Terry penciling him into the lineup at first base on a daily basis.

Re: Troy Glaus
Any rumors on the offer? I suppose it isn't manny because the manny for glaus deals all fell apart quickly, and I don't see them giving up lester or anyone.
Maybe Arroyo and Marte? I don't know how i would feel about that, i really don't know about this. I'm not a big glaus guy.

Re: Troy Glaus
No no no, Richie Sexson is a much better option than him. Hopefully we could get him in some Manny trade to Seattle.

Re: Troy Glaus
Id welcome Glaus to the Red Sox. Capable of 40Hrs/100+ RBIs and since Manny probably wont involved in these talks, that would give Boston a nice 1-2-3 punch
3. Ortiz
4. Ramirez
5. Glaus
The Diamondbacks want pitching: David Wells or Matt Clement to them perhaps

Re: Troy Glaus
No surefire rumors on what the Red Sox are offering. According to that article I linked originally Toronto's prepared to offer Orlando Hudson and possibly Miguel Batista.
I would work (like Riverside said) possibly trading Wells to Arizona for Glaus or trading Wells to SD in a 3-way for Troy.
If that doesn't work, a Matt Clement for Troy Glaus type deal would seem to make sense.
He's definately an improvement over Kevin Youkilis at first. Whatever the Red Sox do they should hold onto Marte. Stay with the young core group and have Marte on the team working with Lowell (a gold glove third baseman) on breaking into the bigs.
I doubt the Red Sox will dip deeply into the farm for Troy. Having already dealt Sanchez, Delgado, and Ramirez they can hardly afford to give up more of these guys.

Re: Troy Glaus
Troy Glaus is certainly not worth our #1 prospect pitcher (Lester) or our #1 prospect hitter (Marte). Certainly we could give up some pitching for him in the likes of Clement or Wells. Between San Diego and Arizona they have some outfielders I like as well in Shawn Green, Gonzo, and Ryan Klesko. It is possible Manny gets involved in this deal as well but we shall see. I think we were discussing this over a month ago.

Re: Troy Glaus
i think it mentioned in that same article on FSN that Toronto and the Angels are both in the looking to pry Glaus out of Arizona. I heard on the local station today XTRA, apparently the reason the Angels haven't made a move for Manny yet was because they were still in shock they couldn't land Konerko even though they made a better offer than Chicago. Supposedly he had had so far as give Scoscia the impression he was definitely signing here in SoCal. And now they are considering possible making a play for Tejada and might be willing to give up a combination of O-Cab, Santana and Kotchman to get him.

The Diamondbacks are in serious discussions with the Red Sox, Blue Jays, Orioles and an unidentified National League club regarding Troy Glaus, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.
The Red Sox and Blue Jays are the front-runners for Glaus, according to an official from one of the interested clubs. The Jays have offered Orlando Hudson for Glaus and might be willing to include Miguel Batista, too. The Red Sox could offer Matt Clement, Bronson Arroyo or David Wells, along with possibly Tony Graffanino and a prospect. Dec. 22 - 3:14 pm et

Re: Troy Glaus
The Jays are litterly drunk on shitsquirt. This money is going to their heads. THey already have Hinske, Hillenbrand and Koskie for potential 3rd basemen. They all deserve to play everyday.

Re: Troy Glaus
D-BACKS---Clement, Tony G and abe alvarez
RED SOX--Glaus
better than the blue jays proposed trade of Hudson and Batista (the blue jays already have 3 first baseman and 3 third baseman and 1 second baseman, so i dont no why they would consider glaus and his big contract). The orioles have reportedly offered Bedard which isnt very much.
id rather keep arroyo and deal him for Jeremy Reed. ONLY if we could sign Millwood.
I think if Glaus can stay healthy he could hit 45-50 HR for the Sox and 130 RBI

Re: Troy Glaus
got this from espn insider
Quote:
Glaus to Blue Jays?
Dec 22 - Peter Gammons reports one American League GM says he "expects Troy Glaus to Toronto to happen." Boston and Baltimore have been in, but the Blue Jays were the leaders on Thursday and are offering Bautista and Hudson.
Dec 22 - The Red Sox have expressed interest in Phillies outfielder Jason Michaels, ESPN.com Insider Jerry Crasnick reports, but Boston and Philadelphia don't appear to have the makings of a deal.
The Phillies need pitching, but they're not high on Boston's Bronson Arroyo. Philadelphia GM Pat Gillick is looking to acquire either a No. 4-5 starter or a setup man for Tom Gordon, and he'll probably use Michaels as part of the package to acquire that commodity. If the Phillies add the bullpen arm, they're looking at the possibility of moving Ryan Madson to the starting rotation
Dec 22 - The Red Sox have expressed interest in starter Kevin Millwood, the Boston Herald reports. Millwood's agent, Scott Boras, reportedly wants to start the bidding at the five-year, $55 million level that the Blue Jays gave to A.J. Burnett.
According to The Dallas Morning News, Rangers owner Tom Hicks hasn't completely dismissed the idea of a five-year deal for Millwood.
Dec 22 - Manny Ramirez has re-opened the door to a trade to the Mets after seeing how Boston's front office handled the Johnny Damon negotiations, the New York Post reports. Ramirez reportedly would strongly consider waiving his no-trade clause and coming to New York.
While the Red Sox continue to look for Ramirez trade partners, the Boston Herald reports, they're also exploring ways to keep the mercurial slugger.
Red Sox co-GM Ben Cherington said on a conference call Tuesday, the Herald reports, that "we also continue to talk to Manny and his representatives and continue to work on flushing out issues related to Ramirez's desire to be traded.
"We're trying to appease some of his concerns. At this point, we just want to listen. We're not going to get into the reasons why he wants out."

Re: Troy Glaus
wat are the blue jays going to do now?? Overbay will DH Koskie will play third and theyll have to get rid of 2 capable 3B/1B in Hinske and Hillenbrand. Whos going to play 2nd for them. I would not get rid of Hudson for another corner infielder who cost 9 million a year. Not worth it for the Jays
