Overall, Gagne gave up a big homerun to Miguel Tejada (not the first to do that) and gave up runs to a streaking Balitmore team... a la Mariano Rivera tonight. I just don't think it is that big a deal. shit happens and he's having a hard time finding his role and his groove. he will.

I completely agree with almost everything you said, but you would have to admit, the runs that Gagne gave up were in a completely different fashion than the run Mo gave up.

It's a cult thing. You wouldn't understand. Zero sum game.

Rivera gave up bloop hits that fell in. Gagne gave up missile after missile. Then came in the next game and gave up a missile over the fence. You have a guy with a loss of his arsenal per se and most likely come tired arm component.

Gameday says he gave up 3 hits in the inning. Are you saying he only gave up a bloop single and blew the lead? Nice try.

there was a bloop single to Cabrera that he fielded and threw out the runner at home, and then the bloop single to Abreu. So yes, I am saying he wasnt hit hard, just bloopers.

The point is that, given ANY small sample size, a pitcher can look good or bad. He's not the Sox closer, he was a mid-season acquisition and needs time to adjust to the new team, park, role, etc.,

That is true. But this "small sample size" goes back 9 outings where he has this line...
8IP 16H 10ER 2HR 2BB 8K
And in his last 2 outings, every single ball was a laser. Rivera has given up one hard hit ball over his last 2 outing (the double to Gutierrez) while Gagne gave up the lasers to Patterson, Markakis, Huff, and Tejada in back to back appearances.

Re: Who would you take Part II? Cano or Pedroia?
you want to chalk it up to adjustments? The guy is a 3 month rental, he has no time to "adjust". If he needs an adjustment period then you might as well relegate him to mopup duty and not use him.

I remember Andrew Dice Clay doing his stand-up, talking about picking up girls.
He said he goes for the big ones...and thinks "no one has even THOUGHT of fkng that...I'm gonna make her mine," as he lures her back to his place with promises of bon-bons and chocolate kisses, greases her hips to get her through the door, etc.
How could someone not see the appeal?

Re: Who would you take Part II? Cano or Pedroia?
My best friend in HS had a theory. He called it GUE. Go Ugly Early. The premise was that guys essentially blocked each other out when going after the hot girl at a party, and only went after the ugly ones after all other options were gone, and the ugly girls knew it, so they weren't interested either. So, he went after the ugly ones from the get go. Gotta say, it worked well for him.

Your friend and I are of the same cult. Turn the lights off, they all look the same. Since I don't intend her to be there when the sun comes up, it makes little difference to me.

Re: Who would you take Part II? Cano or Pedroia?
I'll take Dustin ...for two reasons
1) Sometimes Cano seems to lose focus and not care.
2) I'm a homer.

Re: Who would you take Part II? Cano or Pedroia?
Pedroia swings and misses only 8% of the time. Every AB is a GREAT AB. He wears a pitcher down and hits the cover off the ball. I'll take Dustin, but I like Robbie.
