Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
When asked about what's up with all his errors this season, Julio Lugo apparently thought he plays in a city where ballplayers aren't held accountable for playing like shit and had this outburst:
Quote:
“I don’t care, but sometimes it would be nice to say something positive,” he said. “But all the time it’s negative things, you know? Sometimes, you know, people should say something that’s positive. But every time it’s something negative . . . bring it up, bring it up, bring it up. Why?
“I understand you (the media) are going to write whatever you want . . . but I come here every day and bust my ass . . . if things don’t work out sometimes, that’s the way it’s going to be. You understand? But sometimes you bring up the same things . . . You get tired of that.”

Poor guy. He must be under a whole lot of pressure making millions of dollars to suck at a kids game.

Poor, helpless Julio. At least he had the brains to refrain from a "Johnny at Burger King" comment, although I can't help but think that one of those are around the corner because he'll get an earful at his Fenway return, I'd imagine.

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
I honestly feel bad for the guys, even though they get paid millions, who do get shit on all the time and are are mostly surrounded by negative comments, such as Lugo. I actually find it all a bit immature how wound up fans get about it. Of course fans love their teams and all, but grow up. Come to think of it, I tend to find the media generally dumb and annoying about everything else, so I guess I shouldn't expect anything different from their sports coverage.

fuck that, it comes with the job. He gets $8 million to play baseball for a living, I don't want to hear sob stories about how the media is so damn negative.

I honestly don't care how much someone gets paid, I'm still going to be considerate. Of course the media will ask those questions, because theres a story there. And its up to the baseball player to respond however he wishes. But I can understand why Lugo is pissed.

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
honestly, I've seen the media be mainly positive towards the team during this run of 2 championships in 4 years and in terms of Lugo, he largely got a free pass for his atrocious first half offensively last year simply because the team got off to such a hot start but 10 errors in 33 games or whatever it is, and two 3-error games when the season isn't even a quarter over deserves to be questioned

I am of the opinion that if you ever let baseball stress you out, you shouldnt play.

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
he needs to be a professional and keep repeating "I need to be better" in so many words until the media stops asking why he sucks defensively and then be thankful that his sorry ass isn't good enough to warrant being the first person the media goes to in the clubhouse after every game
if he had his way, the media would ask him his thoughts on getting the game winning "hit" in the Mother's Day Miracle over and over and over

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
If I ever get a job where the ratio of salary to IQ is as high as Julio Lugo's, I'm keeping the job even if it stresses me out.

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
When I guy starts off a season with a lot of errors or a crappy BA, I do feel bad for him because I know that he wants to be doing well. Who doesn't, right? My sympathy ends at the point where he gets upset because the media asks questions about him sucking. Serve up some humble pie, Julio. You do make a crap load of money and you shouldn't have 10 errors. Of course the reporters are going to bug you about it. We're out here reading their shit, day after day and we want them to ask you about it!. When I'm watching that error in last night's game I'm thinking "What a dick!" and I want to know what you have to say for yourself. Not that you'll shed any real light on anything that really matters, but dealing with the press is the price you pay for blowing a game.
We (at least I) stand behind the players on our favorite team. But when you're lousy you're lousy and copping attitude isn't the way to go.

Re: Julio Lugo Goes Off on the Media
I just think this is a classic example of wrong guy wrong team. Lets look at this logically. What was Theo thinking? Its easy to second guess now......but I mean, Cabrera was far superior offensively and defensively. As much as Renterria gets killed for his lone year here, he was a much better offensive player.....and at this point Lugo is on pace to shatter those 30 errors (10 in 33 games!). Alot of us did not like the move when he made it, but we thought maybe Theo knew something we didnt......but he didnt, and almost everyone knew this was a bad move from the get go.
I would much rather see a struggling Lowrie than Lugo, because I think Lowrie gives more defensively, and if he develops at all offensively, he has a chance to at least give what Lugo gave last year (.237, .294, .643), and that worked out well for us.

That's the first thing that came to mind. Shit atleast Ted Williams would give back the middle finger but I doubt Lugo could get away with that today.
