    Lowell's Hip "Isn't Any Better"

    http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/th...-hip-no-better

Following the Red Sox' 9-3 loss to the Washington Nationals, Thursday night at Nationals Park, third baseman Mike Lowell said that his surgically-repaired right hip felt no better after getting four of the previous five days off and a decision regarding the approach would be made on the way to the team's next series in Atlanta. One option that Lowell has been weighing are shots to help lubricate the hip, along with additional time off. Lowell originally felt tightness in his hip last Thursday after having few problems while playing in all but two of the Sox' games up until that point. In the loss to the Nationals, Lowell went 0 for 3 before being replaced at third base in the eighth inning by Nick Green.
Who's psyched for Kotsay at 1B for the near future?

This is why having an empty DH slot over the next few yrs is vital to yankee success. Hip injuries, especially labrum issues, result in arthritis over time. You guys just need to get through another yr and a half with Lowell. We need to get through another 8.5 seasons with ARod. Sounds like Lowell's is down to bone on bone. Hopefully ARod's wont be after surgery this offseason

Because Teixeira would have functioned as an injury fill-in for Lowell.

Carter's been hitting recently, he probably gets the call.

The idea is that Tex would be playing first and Youk at third...

Lowrie got hit with a line drive off the knee and got a few extra day offs. And he's been playing 4 or 5 innings/game even before the linedrive.

Re: Lowell's Hip "Isn't Any Better"

This is not good news. Hip injuries are very serious business. I see Kotsay at 1st as needed. And we probably see more of Lugo at short with Green at 3rd in some cases. OYE! When Lowrie (spelled correctly, I hope) comes back, and provided he can produce offensively, Green can play 3rd with Youk back at 1st. No need to panic.

I'm sorry about Lowell. I like the guy. I hope he doesn't go on the DL but it may be in the cards at some point if the hip injury continues to be aggravated by playing.
"Hating the Yankees like it's a religion since 94'" RIP Mike.

"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."

Just throwing this out there: we have some payroll flexibility, do we trade for a corner infielder if this is serious?

I think so, I think they'll see options open up as teams start to fall out of the race

Yup, because Teixeira would block Lars Anderson, 20x all-star who is hitting .261 with a .757 OPS in AA
