So you have to have knowledge to have a heart? You have to be of Jacko-esque wisdom to know that pulling the plug on a child is probably the toughest decision you'd ever have to make? It's hard enough having to put down the dog you loved for 12 years, but to pull the plug on your own son or daughter would be unfathomable. Do you have children? Have you had a child in a coma? It's a legitimate question, if you haven't, then it's probably something that would change your perspective on this overall.

How is it heartless? I'm just stating the fact that even rich ballplayers have struggles. Don't assume a certain context, please.

Its a difficult thing to assess. But, if I go by his comments, the doctors were telling him that his child wont get any better. And 2 yrs later, they have been proven right, which sucks. Obviously, everyone hopes for the best when it comes to kids. But you really havent seen what toll it takes on families to have a child in this state. And you havent seen what we do to these kids when they get sick. Cause everyone's idea of being "sick" is nowhere close to how sick these kids get. They go downhill fast and there are a lot of invasive monitors and treatments that go into it.

And to answer Dipre's question, no I dont have any kids. And I would imagine that it would be very difficult to "pull the plug". But I think one needs to think about the child here, and I know if I were in the same horrible spot, I would make the decision based on him/her solely. And if I was convinced based on examinations/scans/labs that there was no hope of meaningful recovery, then I would "pull the plug". I am not saying that Gonzalez is a mean-spirited hatemonger who keeps his kid alive for his own sense of self-importance. Not at all. I am just saying that this type of continuation of therapy is likely not considerate of the child at all. I guess it depends on your own belief systems. I believe that there are plenty worse things in life than death. And this child's current state is my definition of hell

Exactly, guys who make millions playing sports have struggles of their own, and we see them as invincible. Like I said, you can't assume a certain context

I think this is a very fair perspective. I just don't think it's necessary to say you don't feel bad for Gonzalez.

I also don't blame him for keeping his son alive. But if Jacko is correct, and the child is suffering from excruciating pain and has no chance of waking up, pulling the plug might not be the worst idea.
    Now i ask you:

Put yourself in his shoes and tell me you'd go ahead and pull the plug if you had the faintest of hopes that he might wake up.

You are funny. When you put something like that with nothing else, what do you think people are going to think?? I was trying to be nice, but you seem to be starting all kind of shit with everyone. You just need to stop it!

No, believe me, in situations like this, your heart kicks in. It's a totally different scenario. You don't know what you'd do, because you've never been in such a horrible situation. It's like that guy who thinks that if he gets cheated on someday, that he'll be able to work it out. I guarantee you, when he gets the news that he's been cheated on, he's not going to feel the same way about it.

I have absolutely no idea what I would do. Emotions are a very tricky thing, and it would be a torturous decision. However, Jacko's explanation is logical. That's all I'm saying.

When did a parent's love respect logic?

Sometimes being human beats logical thinking. And you can't fault someone else when that happens if you don't know what's going on through their minds.

Why would you bring that up? You're the one who decided you were going to make an improper assumption based on... What were you basing it on again? Maybe you should have asked me to elaborate.

    Wow.

    That's rough.
"Hating the Yankees like it's a religion since 94'" RIP Mike.

"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."
