The Yankees didn't lose any players that they could not replace.

we replaced them with guys we couldnt predict would be this good. Losing Chamberlain and Soriano was lessened when Robertson, Ayala, and Wade threw otherworldly. Losing Hughes was lessened when Nova, Garcia and Colon pitched well.

The report is that Beckett didn't sprain his ankle afterall. It just locked up, and they took him out as a precaution. He'll see a specialist, and they'll rest him a bit more, but it doesn't sound like he'll miss any games.

Even so, I think it may be time to consider that the Red Sox don't have the starting pitching depth to win the division. Get Beckett and Bedard healthy in time for the big games, that's all that really matters at this point.

If Beckett and Bedard start missing starts and we have to rollout a rotation of Lester, Lackey, Wakefield, Miller and Weiland for the next week or so with 8 games upcoming against the Rays and a 7 game lead, a collapse would not be shocking to me.

He said it locked up and he felt it "slip out of it's socket." Well, Beckett isnt a medical person, so he wouldnt know that the ankle doesnt have a socket, but if there was laxity to the ankle, then a ligamentous issue (ie sprain) would need to be ruled out. You could also have the same symptoms if you had something akin to Schilling had, where there is a loose tendon slipping around the ankle and it feels like something is out of place. An MRI could sort it all out. It could be nothing also.
    Hal sucks
