salty struck out too much and was prone to horrific slumps.
Salty is not as good a player has he was for us last season - but he had a much better chance of that than Pierzynski did. I understand why they let him go, but it made a lot more sense to let Vasquez handle the job earlier. This team did a lot of very counterproductive dithering with low ceiling vets this year ... just silly for a "reloading" season.

3/21 was not so much that the Sox could not absorb 2-21/2 years of Salty after Vasquez was brought up. I realize that Swihart is on the way and may be here as soon as mid 2015 if he performs well when promoted to Pawtucket. There is no guarantee that either of these kids will be starters going forward. But even if they both start the season with the Sox next year, Salty could have been moved then. I don't get it.
I think letting Salty walk was stupid.
