Red Sox To Acquire Drew Pomeranz
July 14th, 2016 at 4:57pm CST • By Steve Adams
The Padres have agreed to a trade that will send left-hander Drew Pomeranz to the Red Sox, reports Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribue. Lin notes that the return is not yet clear but one of Boston’s better prospects is believed to be in the deal.
For whom?
"Hating the Yankees like it's a religion since 94'" RIP Mike.
"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."
Henry Owens is a scratch for tonight game.
Oh joy!

Per MLB Trade Rumors:
The Padres have agreed to a trade that will send left-hander Drew Pomeranz to the Red Sox, reports Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribue. Lin notes that the return is not yet clear but one of Boston’s better prospects is believed to be in the deal. Lin doesn’t mention his name specifically, but it’s worth noting that several people have noted on Twitter that lefty Henry Owens was scratched from his start in Triple-A tonight.
The Padres acquired Pomeranz from the A’s this winter for the now-bargain price of Yonder Alonso and Marc Rzepczynski, and after talking his way into a rotation tryout in Spring Training, Pomeranz has broken out as the ace of the San Diego staff and fulfilled a good deal of the potential that pundits believed him to possess when he was selected fifth overall by the Indians back in 2010. In 102 innings this season, the first-time All-Star has posted a 2.47 ERA with 10.1 K/9, 3.6 BB/9 and a 47.8 percent ground-ball rate. He’ll immediately slot into the middle of the Boston rotation and can be controlled for another two seasons beyond the 2016 camp
5:05pm: Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports (via Twitter) that top right-handed pitching prospect Anderson Espinoza is headed to the Padres in the deal. ESPN’s Keith Law rated Espinoza as the No. 14 prospect in all of baseball on his just-updated Top 50 prospects list (ESPN Insider required/recommended).
I'm shocked, I figured they'd trade Devers and Kopech but Espinoza is the best pitching prospect I can ever remember the Sox having. Pomeranz is good but he's not elite guy.
He's in A ball.
Pomeranz is good, but this hurts to give up Espinoza.. I guess this means we are going all in this year.
I'll wait until the whole trade is known before chiming in, but.....damn.
Espinoza was my #1 untouchable, even above Moncada. I would rather of thrown Moncada+ in with Espinoza and got a true TOTRS than trade one of them for a mid rotation starter.
