    Muscle Car..... Pondering a Purchase

So, my Subaru that should have lasted me more than 100 thou miles needs to go......... I'm not dumping any more money on that thing....

So..... I SHOULD by a compact SUV........ we already have a small zipping around car....... it's a Kia........... we need something that can support a camping trip with a couple of friends....... that is the practical buy........ I've test drove the Honda HRV....... Ford Escape..... and the Mazda CR-5.

But the wife is saying I should get what I want........ and that we should get a sports car............

So I started looking at new Camaros........ and they are cool and all............... but I kind of think all the newer USA sport cars in my range are boring...... Camaro... Mustang..... Challenger.....etc................

So then I started looking at what I'd pay for a new Camaro.......... and then I started to look at 1970's Camaros........ and have fell in love with the old cars..........

I'd like to be a guy that owns a sports car....... and old sports car.............. and maybe own em for a while, then get something different....... maybe an old Caddy in there at some point too...........

any of you mess around with old cars like that???????? what a massive waste of cash that would be......... but I think I might need to do it.....
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
    In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
    In our yellow submarine

If you A) Are handy with wrenches
    B) Aren't afraid to learn how to work on cars.
    C) Have a decent place to work on a car.
    I'd say go for it.

They can cost a lot of cash, if you have to pay someone to work on it for you.
Unless you pay big bucks for a very low milege car, it's going to need tinkering with every so often.
Most people that own older cars feel that working on them is half the fun.
Another positive is that they're a lot simpler to work on than the newer computer controlled vehicles.

this. especially if it's an weekend car (aka garage queen) and not your DD (daily driver). this way you wont stress if you need to put it on jack stands for a few days to order parts / work on it. find a good forum for the particular car that you end up getting and i am sure there will be great DIY sections to guide you through much of the fixes you will encounter.
other names i have posted under: none

    Yup.
If you have to depend on it for transportation, it may not be a good idea.

I get a lot of info from car forums.
Just be sure to get a second and third opinion for tough diagnoses.
There's a forum for literally every car out there.

That's a good looking car. I can't remember seeing a front grill like that.

That's a good shot of the interior too....... I'm digging the old feel of the interiors too......... you could really float around.......

Mercury and Buick put out some amazing cars during that time.......... at an antique car show years back someone told me Buick and Mercury had bang for their buck still while still buying today......

Yup, the classic car market exploded a few years ago.
It's come back down to earth, from what I've read lately, but you generally wont lose money unless the car gets damaged.

I'd like to find a '64 Buick Riviera.
They,ve got an unusual look and they have either a 401 or 425ci "nail head" V8.
The nailheads were known for producing tons of torque.

It would make a great sleeper.

Are you going to drive it in the winter?
With good tires, they're certainly heavy enough!

You can probably find a Deville with FWD for decent money.
