"Hating the Yankees like it's a religion since 94'" RIP Mike.
"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."
I am so happy Buck will be living in Oriole infamy due to Incy's walk off last night!!!!
I still don't understand what Schowalter was doing anyway. Why isn't the logical move to use UB to walk EE and then bring in Britton to pitch to Bautista? It sets up the force at home plate and the O's pitchers only have to face one of those two.
Whatever, I guess. IMO if John Farrell had done what Schowalter did the fans would be screaming for his head on a platter.
It's a mere moment in a man's life between the All-Star game and the Old Timer's game.

Showalter is getting hammered for this. If it was Boston it would be instant infamy for sure.
There is no excuse for this level of incompetence from a manager. There are a ton of articles coming out. I like this one:
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/the-col...081733150.htmlIt makes no sense. It didn’t make any sense before it happened, and it didn’t make any sense as it was happening, and it didn’t make any sense in the immediate aftermath. It won’t make sense today, won’t make sense tomorrow, not next week, next month or next year.

Orioles fans will be debating this one forever: http://forum.orioleshangout.com/foru...2-Orioles-Talk
As far as Encarnacion goes, I don't want the Red Sox to sign him. They would lose a first round pick and the Red Sox need to keep the farm system strong. I would rather sign J.Reddick, who is a few years younger and won't cost first round compensation. On the other hand, the Red Sox have so much money tied up in Price, Ramirez, Sandoval, along with the horrendous contracts of Craig and Castillo, that they might not be willing to add payroll over the winter.

Craig and Castillo won't count towards the luxury tax. Straight dollars is not the problem.
We miss you Mike.
And deservedly so... Even if the O's went on to lose in that same inning w/ Britton or later on, you have to TRY and stop the momentum any way you can. Britton could've been that "get out of jail free card" they needed so desperately right then & there. I don't understand it. He sat on his hands, could've walked EE as well for a force play at home plate like someelse mentioned. I wasn't watching it like a Red Sox game all glued to it and thought they may have already used Britton. That type of managing should get you fired. Pickin' daisies in the dugout... christ... Inexcusable.
I wanted Toronto to lose after that bottle toss in the 7th. Did anyone else see that?
Exactly. If Showalter doesn't use Britton at the start of the inning, he has to bring him in after an intentional walk to Encarnacion. Let's face it, Jimenez is pretty much a loser and Britton had one of the best seasons of any relief pitcher in the history of baseball.
When Showalter came out and brought in Jimenez I said to myself he must have used Britton already. You don't bring in Jimenez until you have exhausted better options, and Britton is the best option around. I was stunned after the game when I learned that Britton had not been used and was available.
I saw the bottle toss in the game recap. I also heard they couldn't locate the person who threw the bottle. I thought that was strange, but maybe the report was wrong and they did locate the person (and remove him from the stadium)?
Also, it should go without saying, but fuck whatever douchebag threw that full can of beer at Kim. Seriously, that thing flew from 20, 30 feet up in the stands. A full, or even half-full, aluminum can from that height could have concussed him. I thought Canadians were supposed to be polite.
