Obviously the cost of Stanton is the contract or why wasn't he claimed? But I guess teams must want a better deal, a lower yearly price for him in exchange for a few players. We would have to give up an outfielder and a prospect or two in exchange for say 17 million a year instead of 30 million a year. Or am I wrong??
Trivia: The Miami Marlin outfield this year has posted 10.3 fWAR, third best in the majors, while the Red Sox outfield has posted 7.7 fWAR, eighth best in the majors:

Teams know, if they claimed him and offered nothing in trade, the Marlins would just pull him back off waivers. That's why nobody claimed him.
Now that nobody claimed him, any team can work out a waiver-wire deal.
I doubt Miami would offer to pay any of his salary. That's the only reason they might have to trade away the only real big fan appeal player they have.
I doubt he gets traded this August. I'd put the odds pretty low for a winter deal as well.
With budget issues on the Sox horizon in 2019 and 2020, I seriously doubt we even kick the tires. My "offer" was somewhat tongue and cheek and was meant to give an idea of what a starting point to any trade might be.
If Boston wants to win a Championship this season the one move to make is Verlander. I don't want to hear about luxury tax and payroll constraints. Pitching wins championships and with Kimbrell on the backend with Sale Verlander price or porcello your going to be the AL favorite
If Houston is talking to Detriot? Henry needs to dig deep..
