After last night, I'm very impressed with the way the lineup bounced back tonight, especially after Odorizzi looked so tough in the first 2 innings. Last night Farrell had three righty bats in a row and four lefties in a row, but tonight it's right left right left all the way through the lineup.

    Pom is living right tonight.

Some of that is that he's getting squeezed badly, especially on pitches down in the zone. I remarked on it in the 1st inning and it hasn't changed.

That's why Marrero is at 3B and Sandoval isn't.

What's the point of that? Why miss the zone by a foot? Or does he really not know where it's going?
Beaneater, you really need to see him pitch a few times. It's true, he does not have masterful control and he sure as heck doesn't have a great repertoire. But he's now gone 5 innings and given up 2 runs against the same lineup that scored 4 off of Sale last night. Somehow that combo of knuckle curve and fast ball seems to work.

But Marrero can't compete with Pablo scooping up food at the buffet table.

Thanks for that, Max. You're right that it seems to be working, based on the numbers. It must be frustrating as heck for the other team to see a guy who's not throwing particularly hard, who (as you say) doesn't have a quiverful of different pitches, and who spends big chunks of the game operating way outside the strike zone, and yet puts up zeroes more often than not.

Jerry Meals, according to Gameday. Never heard of him.

No kidding! I'm wondering if he has money on the Rays.

That was a great play by Marrero, and a huge one too at that time.
