FTR, I like his patient approach this offseason.
How about Boy Wonder destroying the Sox rotation?

How about signing two stiffs to to $20. mil /year long term contracts?

No. Dave faced no challenges taking the Sox job.

    Everything was honkey dorry.

"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."

If players start signing in a flurry, DD better not let plan B escape and be forced to overpay for what's left (JD?).

This was before the draft slotting, so the strategy made no sense.
Even the Astros weren't perfect with their high draft pick - Mark Appel being a prime example.

In fact Appel was a bad pick for both Houston and Pittsburgh, I believe. ..

Who is still in running for Martinez? Sox and the Diamondbacks?

Wouldn't the other way around also be true? Who else is lurking?

I can't imagine the D-backs topping $125M/5. I'm wondering if the Sox offer is for even less than that.

Yes. I just don't see another taker for JD.

I'm worried that Darvish and Arietta sign, and then what are our options beyong JD?

    Cobb/Lynn and Morrison/Duda?

It’s either a stat revolution or collusion. I’d assume a bit of both

The Stros maxed Appel’s value by dealing him for Giles

Arizona - Boston - the end unless someone grabs him for less than is currently be offered due to someone dropping out of the bidding war games

Every single soul in the media is 100% convinced Martinez will end up in Boston. The Diamondback buzz is apparently contingent upon trading Greinke, who happens to have the highest AAV in MLB history. There is no peep connecting him elsewhere

So yes, I expect some completely unexpected team to swoop in shortly...
