Clearly a sign of being out on Hosmer - and a low enough dollar amount that if a better solution came, they could address it.

Hosmer must be getting a mega deal somewhere, for roughly 1WAR more than Moreland.

    $6.5M x 2.

I don't like the second year, but I guess we can trade him, if we get Machado next season.

I hate the signing, but I'm happier it's not Hosmer.

This is not going to improve our chances next year.

This is definitely an indication that the sox are out on Hosmer. It also makes me wonder if they are out on JD Martinez too. I am wondering if they will add a slugger on a short term deal like Duda or Morrison and pair him with Hanley. It makes too much financial sense to do that. With Moreland in the fold, it presumably removes Hanley from the 1b position

So... not going to create the anticipated splash in season ticket sales?

The only other option I see is this:

Sign JD Martinez to play LF and trade JBJ & Wright for a solid SP'er.

Wright is a toxic asset right now. Nobody is buying him until the legal troubles disappear

Or keep the lineup as is and sign Darvish or Arrieta. ..
