Although pitching high and inside to Stanton does sound like fun.
Backing someone off of the plate is fine. Intentionally throwing at someone is usually dumb.

I was just agreeing with what Bellhorn said and wasn't referencing your post.

Yeah I know. But I wanted to clarify my opinion.

And I am a big fan of busting them inside. Just makes the ABs and the game more interesting.

Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."

There are times when drilling somebody is appropriate, IMO.

Never, ever throw at the head, but a good drilling in the derriere is sometimes called for.

will this be the same way all the great Yankees pitchers from the late 20th century into the 21st would drill Manny and/or Ortiz when Pedro would drill yankees batters mercilessly????

Yep, I have no problem with throwing inside to push batter out of the box. But throwing to the body is stupid

The only time I will agree is for retaliation, nothing wrong with backing up your teammate.

    On the topic of beanballs...

In the documentary about the Sox 1967 Impossible Dream Season, Yaz was talking about Jim Lonborg and what a tough guy he was. Yaz said Lonborg would come up to him before the game and ask him if there was anyone Yaz wanted him to throw at. And in those days the pitchers were often the ones who were retaliated against.

    I have always like Lonborg.

Pitchers hitting in those days made it even better for me. It's a little easier in the AL these days to plunk people when you know you aren't going to be standing in the batters box anytime soon. I still kind of miss those old daze.
