    LF Beni/ Daniel Nava
    RF Betts/ Josh Reddick
    CF JBJ/ Manuel Margot
    DH HRam/ Moncada

    SP1 Jon Lester
    SP2 Anibel Sanchez
    SP3 Velazquez
    SP4 B Johnson
    SP5 Masterson/ Montas/ Kopech

RP1 Maddox, P Light, Ben Taylor, N Ramirez, Walden

Seems to me Ellsbury needs to be in there somewhere. He certainly has had a better career than Nava, for example. And while Kopech has all the talent in the world, he has pitched 5 games above AA ball, none at the major league level.

The Yankees could go 0-162 and it wouldn't be enough

I wouldn't put Ellsbury over Nava on this year's best team.

Actually, Nava wouldn't make the 25 man roster anyways.

    This is probably the 25:

    C Vazquez/ Swihart
    1B Anthony Rizzo
    2B Pedroia
    SS Bogaerts/ Jose Iglesias
    3B Devers/ Travis Shaw
    LF Beni

    SP5 Montas

    RP1 Maddox
    RP2 N Ramirez
    RP3 Workman
    RP4 Poyner
    RP5 Barnes
    Closer Wilson

So, Yoan Moncada last 3 games:

    04-16: 1/3, SB

    04-17: 2/4 R, (2-R) HR, 2RBI, SB

    04-18: 2/7 3 R, (GS) HR, 4 RBI, SB

Is this kid starting to click or is it a fallacy?

Many of these players weren't actually drafted. A trickier exercise might be too find the best team of active players drafted by Boston, and it could include those who didn't sign (like, say, Brandon Belt)...

    Charlie Blackmon
    Yasmani Grandal
    Brandon Belt
    Alex Bregman

Am I missing anyone else important?

One at a time, please. This topic clearly needs it’s own thread. Slow down

Us stat-savvy fans are hesitant to touch 3-game samples.

My guess would be he's starting to click.

The point of the thread is to say, "Well if the Red Sox had held onto so-and-so, they'd get this production instead"

The biggest "what if" to me is the Rizzo-AGon trade.

I get it, but other points were made about other roster scenarios.

I mean he's a 22 year old 5 tool prospect with superstar potential, more than likely he's going to click and figure it out. I don't regret the Sale trade, regardless of what he does.

I think they went with the wrong Adrian. They should have kept Adrian Beltre at 3rd and groomed Rizzo for 1st base. Of course they won the World Series in 2013 so I'm less concerned about moves made prior to that. The Travis Shaw for Thornburg trade, on the other hand, isn't looking so good right about now. But what really prompted the thread was Jed Lowrie's resurgence.

AGon did help us dump Crawford and Beckett, but one has to think Rizzo would have done more.

I'd have loved to have kept Beltre, but we did get JBJ and Swihart as comp picks, so that lessens the hit a little bit.

The Shaw trade does not bother me that much. Sure, I'd undo it, but Shaw was not expected to do that well.

I did not know that about JBJ and Swihart being Beltre's comp picks.

Honestly, I think the biggest shoulda-coulda for the Red Sox was not who they didn't keep, but who they didn't go after. There was this one offseason where Max Scherzer and Nelson Cruz were available, and they didn't even try for either of them.
