Baseball is a physical and a mental game and both those factors can affect a mans performance......But there's at least some evidence of one being true because we know for a fact he was hit with some real life shit. The later is pure speculation.

I would have been ok signing him if he was injured, if it was in the mold of a Hendricks/Paxton deal, but it wasn't a rehab contract, it was a pillow contract designed for him to play well in 2024 and opt out. If the Sox knew he was injured, shame on them.
He also switched teams twice for the first time in his career. It was a real crazy year for him and not a surprise that he struggled.

My main argument is that his finish was a monster red flag one way or the other.

It was another dumpster dive type signing.

If he did pitch well in 2023 he would have opted out anyway.

It's just more of the same disgusting, losing approach.
Yeah, he was supposed to just be an innings eater, but was the only big get of the offseason. The rotation was still kind of a mess before he even went down with an injury. Most of us saw this as another punt by the ownership.

That's not to say we should never sign top SP'ers, again. I think we need to- many & often.
They need to, but they don't want to.

It could be a combination of all the things mentioned, but either way it doesn’t appear to have worked out. Like I said before that Gio wasn’t going to make, or break this season anyway for the Red Sox, and I don’t believe his injury is going to shake up JH to get on the phone with Brez all desperate, and ask what are we going to do now our season just went down the drain, and tell Brez to now go full throttle, and go out, and sign Monty, or Snell.

The list gives reason to not want to, with Gio being the cherry on top.

It's taken forever for them to create a system that generates homegrown starters, and we still are not sure it's gotten any better, recently.

We've basically survived off trading for aces and occasional success (usually short-lived) with signing some.
When you say it's gonna happen now
    When exactly do you mean?

the good news is that Gilotio will not opt now so we have him for 2 years now

He might even get in some games in 2025.

Gotta look at the bright side, you're right.
Championships since purchase by John Henry group: Red Sox 4 Yankees 1

The Red Sox are 8-1 in their last 9 postseason games against the Yankees.

The latest diagnosis is he likely has Tommy John surgery. If that does happen, he’s probably out until July, 2025.

This would be his second procedure if he has one…

I guess they'll just create a roster with no starting pitching then?

Bright side being him being the Opening Day starter in 2026 after they pick up the option after he pitches under 140 innings in 2025 and the Sox pay him only 14M to pitch in 2026?

I'd say it's a black comedy, but have you seen this roster?

Glass half full: This injury will give " Gio " more time to get over his divorce. Maybe find somebody new. Might help his pitching going forward.
    Old school is good school.
