Watched "10 Cloverfield Lane" with the family last night. Quite entertaining. John Goodman was great, as I expected. The female lead was also very impressive.
Just watched "The Last of the Mohicans" for the first time. Absolutely loved it. It covers a time in USA history that isn't talked about much.
In the town where I was born
Lived a man who sailed to sea
And he told us of his life
In the land of submarines
So we sailed up to the sun
'Til we found a sea of green
And we lived beneath the waves
In our yellow submarine

"It's also a simple and indisputable fact that WAR isn't the be-all end-all in valuations, especially in real life. Wanna know why? Because an ace in run-prevention for 120 innings means more often than not, a sub-standard pitcher covering for the rest of the IP that pitcher fails to provide. You can't see value in a vacuum when a player does not provide full-time production."

Saw 10 Cloverfield Lane. What a crock of shit. There's been an attack, but I'm gonna be a vague asshole so you can think I'm a nutjob who's going to rape and kill you. Talk about manufactured drama. Also, I couldn't buy Dan Conner as this doomsday prepper guy. Ended up not really caring by the time the ending rolled round.
I never thought I'd find myself saying this, but I have basically zero hope that the new Trek movie will be anything other than terrible. The first two were fun Sci-Fi movies, but they were awful Star Trek movies, and this one looks even worse.
Obviously we disagree strongly here, which is no big deal of course. I thought Goodman was very good. But I'm a fan of his and he was the main reason I watched the movie. I don't think of him as just Dan Conner, I think he's a better actor than that. And he has played super-creepy characters before, most notably in the Coen Brothers' Barton Fink.
True, I forgot Barton Fink, but 95% of his roles are good guys. I'd like to see someone with more of a bad streak in that role. Except that, to me, the whole premise still falls down with the character straight out chaining her up at the start and being very cryptic/short of details on what's going on.
"Shut the fuck up Donnie."
