I can't buy that. I don't even think that Illmatic is Nas's best album. While I won't argue that Illmatic isn't an amazing album, because it is very good and I have it myself, but I'd put it in the middle of Kanye West's discography. Heck, I'd put it a little above the middle of Nas's own discography.
In addition, if I had to make a top 10 of the most overrated rap albums of all time, Illmatic would definitely make my list. Granted, again, as I've said, it is a very good album, but it is getting the Brian Scalabrine in Boston treatment. I swear that someone cool somewhere said that the album was the best of all time and now everyone is saying that the album is the best of all time to be cool. I'm still convinced that's why Journey is so popular with kids in our age group.
