Here we go baby. Let's Bring it Home 2-0.
Martinez vs. Colon
No need for stats on this one. Pedro will be on top of his game and Colon will probably be strong as well. The playoffs are entirely different than the regular season and their is no reason to compare regular season stats.
The only stat that matters now is the one in the Win/Loss column.
LETS GO SOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've matched up well against Colon this year. He hasn't impressed me at all since he was with Montreal. I'm looking for a good game, proably in the ballpark of 4-2 Sox.

Hopefully Pedro can get it together.
And damn these late games. No game should ever start at 10 o'clock. It's ridiculous. They should start at 7 pm, or 8pm eastern time. Tough shit if you live on the west coast, you're gonna have to watch the game at 4 or 5. Boohoo. I hate staying up until 1 am, and I'm sure kids in school all across the east coast do too.

Pedro will be the key to this game. I expect Colon to step it up, but if they both bring their "A" game, the Sox should win.
The key will be TAKING ADVANTAGE when Colon gets into trouble. GET THE JOB DONE boys!
I can't wait. I'm listening to the MFY pregame now.... because I need my baseball fix... what am I gunna do when there's no more baseball?!?!?

Nice work, Petey. 3 runs and no extra-base hits through 7. Excellent. You're set up for the W. Now hit the showers.
Personal message for Tito: if we see Petey come out of the dugout for the 8th, I will personally hunt you down and... say unkind words to you. OK, I won't really even do that. But seriously, we've seen enough of Petey in the 8th inning to know that it's a bad idea to try to squeeze even one more measly K out of that arm. Get Timlin in. That's an order.

I still can't sleep. This was a great win. So many came up big. Tek (HR), Manny (sac fly on a great AB against KRod), Millar (defense, yes defense),Timlin, Myers, and Foulke, Cabrerra (3 RBI triple), even Tito managed a good game, inserting Roberts at the right time, and using the bullpen to perfection. But the biggest pat on the back goes to Pedro, who went out there and pitched a game that only he could pitch. I feel so good about this team. Coming home up 2-0.

that was awesome--I am so tired and already at work. But I dont care about anything else, that was awesome.
Pedro stepped up. The whole team looks confident.
I am not sure what the stats are but in the last 6 games against the Angels plus these last two we have ripped them apart.
I thought they had a great bullpen, not so far they dont...not against us.
I know..I know...its not over until John Edwards' wife signs, but damn I love this team.
Damon, Orland, manny, do, tek, pedro...they just are all studs.
How about timlin...that loss must have hurt the angels a lot.
Back to boston and lest keep it going.

I'm shocked that not one person here mentioned Pedro Martinez' velocity. Maybe it's because I listen to the radio (and they didn't mention it on TV), but Pedro his 95 on the radar gun...IN THE SEVENTH INNING!
Considering this is as hard as he's thrown in a while, I take that as a good sign. He seemed to be pitching very well (and if it wasn't for a defensive blunder by Cabrera/Ramirez, he may have only given up 1 run... who knows) and was the key to this game.
Yes, thanks to Tek and Manny we scored the necessary runs... But Pedro really battled (especially in the seventh) and kept us in the game. A well deserved win for Mr. Martinez.
I'm so excited. Not even the Yankees winning last night can get me down!

you guys are insane, i finished the game, walked to my girlfriends, went to bed, woke up at 7 am for class and then walked back home. how you guys stay up to post, that's beyond me.
in responce to the quotes i made:
i've always seen pedro hit 93-94. 95 was just pretty. he's been saving it, petey is by far my fav. pitcher. i'm glad he had a great outing considering i argued for over an hour with a girl that petey rocks. she says he sucks cus of his season and his attitude. dumb bitch doesn't know shit about baseball, nor does she know petey.
post 2:
did anyone notice in the herald that it said OC got a 3 run double? i did, very uncool. it had the chance to be a in the park HR.
post 3:
bellhorn was trying to score off a single. i would have been that far off too. he was just trying to put some numbers up there for pedro. he might have been safe if he had not slipped. it happens, i'm not going to hate on him for it. i was more upset to see OC bunt for an out. he's not that bad of a hitter, he should have swung the bat.

I stayed up, but I didn't post during the game (you'll notice my posts were late morning)
Anyway, another point to add was that we scored 1 run off of Rodriguez, and 4 off of Donnelly... so for at least last night, we did the impossible: scored off of the Anaheim bullpen.
At the very least, this team can enter the rest of the series with a little more confidence against the likes of Shields, Rodriguez, and Donnelly.
I can't say enough good things about last nights game. Sox overcame a deficit, a bad play, missed opportunities, and came back to get the "W"
Pedro was awesome, and Cabrera/Ramirez are forgiven for their defensive blunder!
2-0 Sox. This series is far from over, but Sox fans everywhere have got to feel good heading back to Fenway (where the Sox have played MUCH better)

Hey, Francona pulled Petey at exactly the right time last night! (another thing to love about yesterday's win)
Hopefully this outing will give Petey confidence in himself, and the Sox confidence in their bullpen (which did well the last 2 nights).

elsbrueno mentioned Pedro's velocity and he's right on. The guy was throwin HEAT!! Not the high nineties of old, but I'll take a consistent 94-95. During Eckstein's at bat in the seventh, PEdro threw about nine straight 94 MPH heaters. I also could've sworn, although it may have been a glitch or I may have been seeing things at 1 in the morning, but I swear I saw the ESPN radar read 97 MPH on one pitch. If that's true: WELCOME BACK PEDRO!!!!

I remember all too well last season and into this one when everyone was saying Pedro was washed up because his fastball was in the high 80s. They said he could still be effective if he could get it into the low 90s.
I don't know what happened, maybe he was saving himself for this, but this is as hard as he's thrown since before his injuries.... He seems like he's got an extra 3-5 MPH on that heater... which is a big deal for any pitcher.
I've said this before, but I'll say it one more time: If anyone doubted Pedro's ability to be the ace of a staff, they are wrong. Last night Pedro came out and did what an ace is required to do: Give your team the chance to win every night. He battled, he came back with a little extra on his fastball in key situations, and he got the win.
Pedro and Schilling have done their jobs as co-aces of this staff.
