In this thread I will rave about albums I love that you may or may not have heard and that the majority of music fans hate. First installment coming when I feel like it.

FTR, the majority of this will be heavy/thrash/industrial/some kind of metal.

Oh no, they're real. Not sure about Jizz Mop however.

But yeah, the names of these bands are the results of creatively lethargic people who are too retarded to come up with a half decent name, so they make up these names and the "fans" are nothing more than a bunch of head banging idiots who like them for their name.... and the occasional head banging, glass breaking, high voiced crackling "music" on their albums.

Honestly, I'd take Soulja Boy over any of today's "metal" anyday.

Since Jacoby isn't posting any music, i will. These are mostly sludge and progressive metal bands.

Recent metal people should check out, complete with links to their myspaces for a listen:

Crack The Skye by Mastodon, first and foremost. I always liked this band, but upon hearing this CD it solidified them as my favorite band ever, and favorite album ever.

As much as I enjoy the heavier music at times, I don't recall actually listening/hearing the previously mentioned.

But there's always the Sweatpant Boner and Wargasm.

I just randomly clicked on "Pig Destroyer" and suffice to say, it was every bit as bad as I expected it to be. At one point I believe I did hear an audible "the" so perhaps there is a component of the English language present.

It's grindcore. The vocal's are supposed to be like that. It's a genre that takes time to get used to. But they lyrics usually are poetic, in a twisted way, for instance:

she frolics through the rain
whispering love insane
her kisses exit through
heart-shaped exit wounds

her skin like flesh of angels
her blood my catholic wine
it moves slowly through me
disintegrates my spine

she's got heroin embraces
that I still need to be in
I force myself to loathe her
so I can fall for her again
so I can fall for her again

her lips are wet with venom
her posture's serpentine
she'll touch my arm and
flowers grow their
poisonous and obscene

her lips are wet with venom
her posture's serpentine
she'll touch my arm and
flowers grow their
poisonous and obscene

all her shrugged little movements
and their despotic majesty
in the midst of such perfection
I can't help but feel diseased

Also, Anal Cunt really isin't metal but it's striaght up grindcore, which is punk. And they aren't a serious band. They basically just talk massive amounts of shit to piss people off/be funny.

SLAYER - SEASONS IN THE ABYSS (1990)

In 1990, Slayer and thrash metal as a whole were at an all time high in popularity. In '86, the band released Reign In Blood, which is a staple among any real metal fan's collection. They followed with South of Heaven, which kicked down the aggression severely, and took a lot of the intensity and excitement with it. Silent Scream and the title track were the only listenable tracks on that album. RIB was pretty much the best album ever recorded, and the most aggressive music you could possibly hear without diving into the wonderful world of cookie monster growling. and still to this day I haven't heard any Slayer album that even touches it (and there are only two Slayer albums I could really do without). Except one.

I'm not going to say that this is equal to RIB's greatness, but if RIB is my favorite metal album of all time (which it is), this is for sure number two on that list, with a good distance between this and number three. This takes some of SoH's least painful melodic/ominous moments, and combines them with the thrashing insanity of Reign In Blood. Slayer took just the right mix of each, and we ended up with a what Kerrang labeled as the best metal album of all time.

War Ensemble is the first track, and if you're new to thrash metal, this song will rip your dick off. Literally. It would have fit perfectly on RIB, and is the easily the best track on this album. The buzzsaw guitar and (vocalist) Tom Araya's smoothed out yet still aggressive tone add a new dimension to it. Blood Red is the follow up, and is about fascist governments. Pretty forgettable, but by no means bad. Spirit In Black has a satanist theme to it. Slayer has done better satanist/anti-religion stuff than this, for sure. But its still a worthwhile track. Expendable Youth is a commentary on gang wars, and is another forgettable track. My least favorite of the album. The common theme with these three tracks is the fact that they have a much more SoH sound to them, as opposed to RIB, which is why I tend to like them less.

Things really start to pick up with Dead Skin Mask (nice title, I know). Its another slow, ominous one, but it clicks in a big way. Its about Ed Gein, and what he did to his victims. This is classic Slayer in that it speaks through his perspective, and a result doesn't condemn him, but at the same time it doesn't sympathize with him either. The whole track, especially the last minute or so, is chilling effective. One of the album's better offerings. Hallowed Point is a fast-paced thrasher that I like more and more each time I hear it. Skeletons of Society is interesting in that it describes a post-acopolyptic world, with some pretty good commentary. The whole song has an almost robotic feel to it, that adds to the atmosphere.

Temptation is another satanist song, and its kinda dull, even with the dual vocal tracks. Born of Fire is the only satanist track here that works, and oh shit does it. Kerry King (co-lead guitarist, songwriter) had it lying around as an instrumental track that he couldn't write any decent lyrics for. It was the final track completed for the album, and its just really cool. I can't really describe why. Seasons In The Abyss is the title and final track, and is the most progressive of the album. There are numerous tempo changes in its 6:40 run time, among them is a knockout guitar solo. Often times Slayer is pretty same-y, but this is one track I can safely say I haven't heard anything similar to. Second best track of the album, and possibly the most accessible.

Recommended - War Ensemble, Dead Skin Mask, Hallowed Point, Born of Fire, Seasons In The Abyss

DOPE - AMERICAN APATHY (2005)

Dope tends to fly under the radar in the already not-exactly-mainstream land of industrial metal. No doubt due to their (or vocalist/guitarist/frontman/god Edsel Dope's) hateful, controversial and aggressive lyrics as well as song mixes that tends to make their music louder than average. American Apathy captures every one of Dope's trademarks, and despite not receiving much critical praise, could very well be their best effort.

I'm Back is the opener, and is a loud-as-shit fistpumper that among other things takes pot shots at George W. Bush (somewhat of a theme for this album). I find the chorus to be particularly catchy, with Edsel harshly bellowing 'When the sound goes boom, what you gonna do, make a make a move, motherfucker (and repeat)'. One of the album's highlights. The next two tracks are pretty dull, and the following track are only slightly better (Survive, No Way Out, Always, in order). Bastard is another high point of the album, I enjoy it for the sole reason that it just... isn't nice. Find a copy of the lyrics (or just listen to the song) for proof. Classic Dope.

Sex Machine and Let's Fuck are the two obligatory sex songs off the album, and while Let's Fuck is slightly better, neither is that great. Revolution is a favorite of mine, and is a call-to-arms song of sorts. Edsel's distorted vocals are in full swing on this one. Somewhere in the middle of these four tracks (6-9) is a 17-second interlude called Four More Years, which is another indirect swing at W. Fuck The World is an average drug song. I Wish I Was The President is pretty self-explanatory as far as subject matter, and succeeds in being fairly entertaining without hatcheting the musical aspect of things.

The best three tracks were saved for last, thankfully. Dream is a nice breath of fresh air from Dope's usual trifecta attack of sex, drugs, or just straight malice, not that I have any issue with those kinds of songs at all. It is one of the very few heartfelt (sorta kinda) tracks Dope has done. Great track. The Life, though, blows every other song by this band out of the water. Yes, its a drug song, but the lyrics are good in all aspects. One stark difference from the rest of their songs is the length: this is about 5:10, while the average Dope song is a little longer than three minutes. My personal favorite moment is after each chorus, a ridiculously distorted guitar plays some pretty high notes, resulting in something that sounds exactly like a bloodcurdling scream. I approve. People Are People is the closer, and is a social commentary track by Edsel that is surprisingly melodic, an approach I wish this band took a little more often. The lyrics are somewhat hypocritical considering the artist, but fuck it, because it sounds awesome.

Recommended tracks - I'm Back, Bastard, Dream, The Life, People Are People
