Thank you yeszir for really lightening up my day, which has been the longest day of my life. Always good to have some humor when you're as nervous I am.

What an unbelievable few days!

My first post here...but I've been reading for a while though. I'm a sox fan from Australia. Don't know how many are in that category!

To read about all the hard luck, the disappointment, the heartache over the years and then to finally make the World Series is awesome.

I only got into baseball four years ago, but enough time to experience heartbreak as a red sox fan in last year's ALCS. People bagged me for choosing the red sox but hopefully I'll be the one laughing at them in 10 days' time.

Congratulations to the team and everyone involved! When Sierra grounded to Pokey and Mentkiewicz held his arms up in triumph after the final out was recorded, it was really a sensational feeling. (And I've only been into baseball for four years). I can't imagine what the long-time fans must be feeling like.

I have some idea - my first love is Aussie rules footy and my team has not won the premiership for 40 years, with only two grand final (equivalent to world series) appearances since then for two losses. So I guess that's about half of what the sox have gone through with 86 years between drinks and four World Series defeats.

Can't wait for Sunday morning (Aussie time) for Game 1 at Fenway. Let's go red sox!

Welcome red. Tell us more about your Aussie team. Which team is it?

Melbourne Demons. It's the oldest football club in the world - founded in 1858. The league did not start until 1897, but the Melbourne Football Club was found a while before it.

We had a hugely successful era in the 1950s and early 1960s. We won six premierships between 1955 and 1964 and were the powerhouse of the competition. But it all went downhill from then. We have not won a premiership since...40 years and counting. As I was born in 1982, I haven't seen a Melbourne premiership.

It's funny in a way the similarity between the Sox and Demons. My reason for choosing to support the Sox is partly because they have red and blue (the colours of the Demons), are called the Red Sox (Melbourne used to be called the Redlegs a while back prior to the Demons) and are a traditional club like the Demons. They may seem like petty reasons, but unlike the Demons who I inherited off my parents and was a fan the day I was born, my family have no interest in baseball so I had to select a team myself.

The other similarity is the "curse of the Bambino." While "curse" hasn't been a word used to describe the Demons, the coach of the team that took us to six premierships between 1955 and 1964 was sacked in 1965, and since then we have not won a premiership. Like the Sox, our fans are long-suffering and are success-starved.

We have made two grand finals in my lifetime and got crushed in both of them. In 1988 we lost by a grand final record margin of 96 points and in 2000 we lost to a team that only lost one game the whole season.

So I empathise with long-suffering Red Sox fans! How long have you been a Red Sox fan RedSoxRooter?

I have a bunch of relatives in Australia, mostly in Sydney, also have an aunt in Canberra. I've also been to Australia a couple times, it is great down there.
