View Full Version : Moving Servers

Talksox may be down for a few hours tomorrow (Monday, August 30th) as I move it to a new server. You'll see a message at the top saying "You are currently viewing Talksox on the OLD server, any posts here will not be transferred to the new server" once the transition begins. From that point on it should be a few hours before the new site is up, but any posts made in the interim will not be transferred. After the move, everything will look and behave exactly the same.

Hopefully everything goes off without a hitch. There might be some hiccups over the course of the day as I iron everything out. If you notice problems or experience errors after the move, please post in this thread and tell me what's up. I'm doing it on an off day for the Sox so if there are issues we won't miss out on any super important discussion.

Are you moving Talkpats as well?

If not, I could start a Sox thread over there and everyone could post there while the change is taking effect.

Talkpats is staying put. The site should only be in flux for a few hours but if you want to start an interim thread over there that's fine.

OK.

Anyone that wants to post during the transition should go to talkpats.com where I will have started a Sox thread. See you there!

Done. There is a thread for talking Sox in "Other Sports" on talkpats.com..

You'll need to create an account. No big deal. It just takes a minute.

I hope to see you there.

Ok, I'm 80% of the way there. I need to clean up the URLs so they look like they did on the old server. At least I didn't break the place!

Also, search may not be working quite yet.

What do you mean?

I read the three threads that were posted on and when I hit the refresh button they stayed the same.
They stayed bold yet there were no new posts.

After I posted and hit refresh, my name showed up in stead of yours.

Same happens to me. After a certain point, threads won't become unbolded, even after I've read what's been posted.

This is a cookie issue. I think I know what's causing it, but I need to wait for the DNS to propagate entirely before I can fix it.

You might try to clear your cookies, or you can use the "mark forums read" link on the main page near the bottom of the forum list. You're able to read and make new posts though, correct?

Spudboy
08-30-2010, 12:23 PM
I cleared my coolies and now the top three threads refresh. When I click on the bottom five threads I get that message about an invalid link. And they do not refresh either.

Spudboy

So now the gt and clay threads don't refresh. When I click on the post your pic thread I end up on this thread.

The last thread works.

I can't replicate this because the domain hasn't shifted over for me yet. You're saying when you click on the post your pic thread you get taken here instead? Are you clickig the thread title or one of the page numbers?

No slowness issues, although occasionally my page will change to an error page. Something like a 404 or 505 error. I'll be more specific the next time I see it.

Yea, it's not so much slowness as it is just crashing. Like the site goes down for 20 seconds to a minute.

But it hasn't happened in many hours. Since about 2-3.

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@talksox.com and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Navigating between pages has been slow.

I left for another VB board (worked fine as do all the other sites) so it's not Firefox or my ISP.

Trying to get back on Talksox I encountered the above problem.

It's a DNS thing. Basically the fact that Talksox now lives on this new server has to travel around the world and all service providers need to acknowledge the change. Your work is just behind your home. I bet it'll be switched over by tomorrow.
